Qantas Sydney Domestic Business Lounge Panini Bar

In this lounge for the first time in many months today, having managed to line up QF33/ 5 for the last few flights home from SYD. Must give credit where its due, considering a burger is really all about the patty, this one was not atrocious - while it certainly wasn't worthy of Samuel L Jackson impersonations, it definitely held its own against many pub burgers I have paid $30 for.
The bun was a crumbling mess, but as someone who needs to jump back on the low carb train after the weekend's festivities, was happy to ditch this. This would totally ruin the experience for most burger lovers though, so some revision will be needed here.
Nonetheless shows potential, still not a patch on the PER pizzas, but at least SYD now has a distinct alternative to the usual slops/ ham and cheese toasties.IMG_1745.jpeg
Unlike Big Macs, it actually wasn't too far short of the styled picture. Shame about the disintegrating bun....

I’m not much of a reviewer and I try to be positive whenever possible. So here goes:

This burger is loaded with potential. The addition of a fresh bun and beef that wasn’t overcooked and reheated may provide a more premium burger taste. The beetroot relish was genuinely good, however passengers should moderate their overall expectations. Culinary awards or Michelin stars appear out of reach.
I beg to differ. You sir, have perfected the art of reviewing.

Oh dear! It looks good enough to eat!. I have a trip WLG-MEL-PER. The choice was MEL or SYD and I chose MEL because I didn't fancy the transfer at SYD so I will be missing out. I may get one on arrival a couple of days later if the panini bar is open! At least I have the Spice Bar, Pizza Bar, ADL Market Kitchen and SYD F lounge to look forward to for a more lingering experience.

It’s strange it’s like Qantas reads AFF. I have complained about the beer in the dungeon and I wanted craft beer. Last time I was there they got in some local craft beer.
I did complain about the prison slop and they should out out some simple additions people actually want to eat. Now they have this gem. I haven’t tried it but would be happy with this middle road burger and a craft beer.
I think it’s a step in the right direction.

They once has 4 Pines in the SYD INT F lounge, but not more. Plenty in SYD INT EK lounge!

The Madrid non Schengen Iberia lounge had an amazing range. You could try the bottles with gas to stop oxidation, or try many beers, some on tap. There is wine on the bench and in ice buckets and a temp controlled wine firdge if nothing open tickles your fancy. Then there was the man wheeling a trolley around with some outstanding local wines. It was great as he actually knew about the wines and we had a little education session as the lounge was quiet. The food was a boring buffet but meals are served after 8pm. We thought the timing was a little strange as there werre only 2 late flights that would give the chance of a meal.
The IB lounge was much nicer than the EK shared lounge.
