I'm only guessing, but possibly it's a grouse at Qantas for basically shutting down these fares.

I was thinking along the lines of .br bashing, but then I read it again and I could find at least three disjointed threads in there. I did try to decipher, believe you me... As I said, it must be my English, hence my question.

If these fares were still around I'd probably do another 5-6 SIN 2 to 3 night trips this year, but at $750ish I can't justify it

I never would've flown QF to SIN (in Y) if it hadn't been for these .br fares. I hadn't flown international Y with QF for over 25 years but I have been quite happy with the experience the last 2 times, so there's now a higher chance of me flying internationally with them in the future. Those .br fares did serve their purpose. ;)

It just shows we all have our price and unfortunately QF's is generally too high! I was very similar. Hadn't flown QF international since they pulled out of MEL-BKK back 10 or so years ago. Since then went over to mainly Star Alliance airlines. But actually enjoyed the Qantas flights MEL-SIN-MEL that I took on these fares.

Could anyone who has successfully called .br please post the number used? Apparently my brother can't connect. I have not yet tried myself, but I did look up the numbers online.

They are only open from 7:30am to 1:30pm Brazil time so you have to make sure you call in those hours or it will just hang up on you.

I've called outside those times before.. no issue

I think travelislife is meant to say 7.30am to 1.30am.

Indeed, if you check Expedia Brazil's website under Support (Suporte):
O Atendimento ao Cliente da Expedia está disponível das 7h30 à 1h30, horário local do Brasil, sete dias por semana.

The Customer Service is available from Expedia 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 a.m., Brazil local time, seven days a week.

QF changes YQ application to be segment origin based

Latest Fare News
From 7 May 2014 the fuel surcharge on Qantas flights* will be calculated based on the point of origin of the itinerary instead of the country where the ticket is issued. The fuel surcharge will be applied in the currency of the country where the itinerary originates, then converted to the local currency in the ticketing country using the exchange rate applicable at the time of ticketing.

There will be no change to the Qantas fuel surcharge levels where tickets are issued in the same country as the point of origin.

Tickets issued in a country different to where the itinerary originates may see a change to the Qantas fuel surcharge levels."

Looks like an endeavor to get around .BR type regulation.

If its illegal to sell a fare with fuel surcharges, I would not think how they're calculated would change their illegality. Not knowing Brazilian law in this context nor the size of the market for Qantas Brazil I could be wrong.

I suspect this is more of a case of fx hedging facilitation.

Could be that, obfuscation or a combination of things.

O have read the Brazil law technically applies to only fares originating in Brazil, a few airlines just didn't implement things that way.

Not only .br but .ie and any other kinds of third country loopholes, notwithstanding local law.

Do you have a link to the Brazilian law or a good discussion of it?

"Everyone" seems to know that "YQ is illegal", but I'm sure it is not exactly posted like that in the regulation.

Yep! Sorry for the mistake there. Yep that is the exact line off the website as quoted by anat0l.

I will finally be flying an expedia.br cheapie from SYD-MEL-SIN then BKK-SYD next month. My travel parter can't make this trip now so do I need to cancel their flights or can I just turn up and inform qantas they are a no show? I'll still be flying and do the trip.
