I will finally be flying an expedia.br cheapie from SYD-MEL-SIN then BKK-SYD next month. My travel parter can't make this trip now so do I need to cancel their flights or can I just turn up and inform qantas they are a no show? I'll still be flying and do the trip.

Hi Dudditz, firstly you'll need to check the ticket fare conditions permit name changes. If yes and the cost of the name change is still attractive; then you'll need to call expedia.br to action the changes. There is step by step process buried in the thread somewhere which includes helpful Portuguese language tips. You could try calling Qantas but historically they've directed ticket holders back to expedia.br Out of interest when was the ticket booked? Also, I doubt you'll be able to get that fare back if it's cancelled.

You don't need to tell Qantas anything if you want to throw ticket away.

If you want to have any chance of a refund of taxes then you will need to inform Qantas.

Thanks for the replies. The ticket was booked in February just before the BR deals disappeared. From looking at the fare conditions through Expedia there if definitely not name change or refund permitted. From reading through this thread it seems that Qantas have been unwilling to assist with these fares. I think just simply myself turning up for the legs will be the go the flights were so cheap so it's probably not an issue. As long as my flights aren't impacted by only one of us turning up it should be fine.

You should be able to split the booking and then cancel your partners airfare for a credit to use on future QF flights. I managed to change a .br directly with Qantas as I said the travel agent (.br) couldn't see the flights I wanted to change to which was 100% correct, so they took the booking over and made the changes, all went smoothly.

I had a similar experience, but Qantas was unwilling to take over the booking. Fortunately I wanted to use the first leg, and the changes I was after was for some of the subsequent legs. After the first leg was flown, Qantas was in charge (they take over from travel agents as soon as you check in for the first leg). I wanted to move my return flights to a few month later, which meant it was after validity of the ticket (the ticket had a 4 month validity from the first flight). I paid the difference to Qantas to move the ticket to 12-month validity, and then the return flights was pushed back to the exact dates I was after.

I had an itinerary in July last year with 3 mates of which one was unable to fly.
I (perhaps dubiously) still got him to check in online and select a seat, giving me a shadow, and I just informed them at check in that he wasn't able to make the flight.

Interestingly, despite being a no-show, his return ticket wasn't invalidated and the same process occurred in reverse.

I was excited when I saw the thread revived, I would love if this deal came back - but oh well!
Enjoy your cheap flights, I know we did (bucks weekend in coughet was memorable!)

For what it's worth, someone I know (cough) recently used the forward leg of a really cheap .br booked flight but they forfeited the return leg.. Mysteriously, FF points and SCs were were credited for both legs!
