Qantas swaps Upcoming Flight A330 for A321XLR

I think CGK is given alongside DPS which could enable them to launch a third frequency from Sydney or even BNE.

I’m more interested to see where the new expansion will come from, ie Adelaide/Perth/Brisbane into Asia or Pacific. Melbourne and Sydney too far for me on a 321.

Was on QF39 a couple of days ago and the CSM apologised about the wear and tear on the aircraft and a few technical issues and commented that as soon as QF gets a few more A321’s then MEL-CGK would be swapped over permanently to them
From memory, the initial roll-out of QF A321's are only recliner not lie flat @jase05 ?
Am flying MEL- CGK on Sunday be interesting to see how (s)coughpy that 330 is.

Absolutely nothing wrong with the a330 business. The seats are great. I don’t find any major differences between the a330 and 787 or 380.

Economy is a little tired however.

The seats were comfy but just a bit tatty which is to be expected of something that has done the mileage.
The IFE had to be reset a couple of times which caused all units to be blank for a little bit several times. The one J loo is probably the biggest fault with it though.

Any decent seats on the A321 in biz?

Another downgrade in hard product.

I'd still prefer the most tired A330 business product on QF (still very functional though) over a shiny new business seat on the current A321XLRs.

You simply just can't compare a lay-flat seat to a recliner.

Sure. If we extrapolate for a few years and the lie flat versions have come onboard (lets say 1-1 reverse herringbone) would you still consider it a downgrade?

I'd say yes still - a narrowbody simply doesn't have the cabin spaciousness unlike a widebody.

Even simple things as walking through the cabin on a long haul flight, a widebody is easily better.

I guess with the economics of operating flights though, it's obvious a lot of airlines are cutting costs - us as the passengers suffer.

I get what you mean… but could never understand why pax battled to sit upstairs on a 747? That was only marginally wider than a 737 and no twin aisles. Is there that much of a difference - other than psychologically - with a premium narrow body configuration these days (vs the awful herringbone high-density narrow boys business classes some carriers are starting to adopt).

PER-SYD redeye is on the A321XLR on some dates I'm looking at next year ... crikey!
I used travel to the PER office at least once a month for many years (flying both QF and a lot on VA).

Never once did I think it’ll be a good idea to catch the red-eye home!

Yeah I get it, I’m looking at it to connect to a morning international flight ex-SYD. Shocked they swapped the A330 out (or maybe I shouldn’t be).

Yeah, I started typing “Unless you’re connecting” but I never was! TF….
