Qantas swaps Flight numbers

My QF499 next month got swapped to QF1265 when the 738 was swapped for an A220.

Fortunately my seat (8C) which I'd selected as a forward zone seat (before Economy Plus was rolled out) remained Economy Plus. The person who'd selected 8A as a forward zone was not so fortunate being pushed back to 10A.

Weekend flight? That seems to be norm out of Canberra now. Dash8s for everything. We've had flights to Brisbane and Hobart switched out to Dash8s. As we'd used points there was no flexibility to change.

Wow, HBA to CBR on a Dash8.
And only one loo onboard, limited space, ...
Not to mention, having to pick up your hold bags at the back of the plane, nice touch for once/twice, but no fun if its raining/or storms, esp BNE/Qld.
And yes, have done that several times, no, not that particular route, but did ADL -> MEL on the QF Dash8 a few years ago.
Guess tho, they save a lot of money by using smaller planes, and also letting/giving/issueing the flights QFlink.

It was an unexpected enhancement for the flight, in both directions, on what was supposed to be an E190.

We don't mind the Dash8s - they get you there and we think dropping off and getting our cabin bags at the back is better than waiting inside.

Is a flight number change for an aircraft change new?

A few months ago I had an A321 swapped to a 737 with no flight number change. Only found out upon boarding.

My Jan 2 MEL to SYD has changed from QF1520 to QF1500. Same time and aircraft type. I don’t really understand because when I Google QF1520 it is MEL to CBR, but it was definitely the original flight number.

Flight number change, can also mean aircraft type change.
Ie, if you got QF10 or QF34 from PER, to the east coast, and you got the range of QF4** and above, you know you have been kicked to QFd.
My QF650, than when I booked, was an A330, but it kept its #, and is now an A321neo.
I even wrote to QF, but yeah, yep, its like writing to talking to a void, they dont care.
Will be putting the majority of my flights now to VA.

They have done something similar to us too. Here are the new flight details:

Looks like a change of flight number occasioned by the flight now being operated by Qantaslink when it was previously Qantas? It's still on an A220 though, and I do not think that QF1525 was actually a Qantas flight despite what is says in the change notice.

These change notices are extremely confusing, especially when trying to read them on a phone.

Hope they dont put you onto a dash8 tho.

Heh, if you go to flightaware and then type in those flight #s, they are all over the place, TSV to BNE, BNE/SYD etc.
Even QFA/QLK1525/1555 isnt right!

I have a SYD>MEL flight for mid November which has had 3 changes already, also a Qlink operated one.
Checking the number it shows BNE > CBR and another flight number was CBR > MEL
Can't wait to get to Sydney on the day after 10 hours intl to find nothing is there and it's the last flight of the day.

Yep I do not want a Dash-8 CBR-MEL. I’ve done that before and it’s not my preference.
I did them for 2 years back in my FIFO days ADL <> MOO with 2 hour legs every 2 weeks and it wasn't that bad.

Yes I regularly do CBR-SYD and don’t mind it. But the extra time to MEL and the fact that it’s an international connection to DXB in J for an 8 week family visit means I will have the max allowable hand luggage and that is not really compatible with a Dash-8.

I think too, they reuse flight #.
