Qantas 'surprise after the election'

Well Ben Sandilands is not really up there with reliable sources for me, only good really when you feel like reading a hopelessly biased opinion piece with little substance when it comes to Qantas news he reports on.

My dream announcement would be folding Jetstar domestic into Qantaslink :)

I notice the article says "There are also talks that Qantas Airways and British Airways may also return to KLIA.".

I think returning to KUL and also codesharing with MH around Asia would be just what the doctor ordered for QFi, not to mention it would put their OW sponsorship to good use.

Highly doubt it, that said a hand over of all but a few core routes, I wouldn't put it past the red roo. That or the creation of JetstarLink...

There has been a halt in training programs at Qantaslink.

I wouldn't fly anymore if that happened I don't think. Less to no perks (assuming JQ model) and the spirit of travel disappears. I'm sure I'm not a driving factor for whether a route is profitable or not, but I thought QFLink were.

Given how politically charged even a move to Dubai as a stopover has been I am thinking it might even be the establishment of a crew base in DXB to facilitate European expansion with some transferred EK 777 orders. EK can't do everything for various reasons.

Ex-Prime Ministers keep their CL member ship, just to answer a previous post. If the rumour is to be believed it probably has something to do with the QF sale act.

Other possibilities like a total rebranding and separation with QFi staying as the international arm and possibly QFd becoming Jetstar Australia accross the board? Is there anything in the current Qantas Sale act that would prevent a rebrand like this?

Why? QFd is profitable and this would be a death wish!

Why not split off QF domestic, not as Jetstar, but maybe under another name: TAA? Australian? It would give them a chance to break the contracts they don't want and make very profitable business out of a marginally profitable one. QF international could be left to wither away with its high cost base, and the 'new QF domestic' could use EK internationally (but this seems to already be happening, split or no split...)

Would that be the abolish of Qantas Sales Act? Which may enable Emirates and Qantas to exchange holdings in each other or Emirates buy into Qantas or Jetstar?

And possible AJ leaving the company since this year's shake up in top management?

The QF PR Machine will be happy to hear how to close to 'message' you are on all that lot ;)

How about calling it Ansett? And introduce the quality of service that they used to have while they're at it - just keep the hands of our cousins across the Tasman off it.

Let's not forget that under the previous Coalition government, John Anderson was unflatteringly referred to as the Minister for Qantas.

Both sides have a protectionist view when it comes to QF - I really can't see a difference in partisan viewpoint.

Righty or wrongly.

I call BS.

I agree. I don't think Qantas would be the one annoucing the abolition of the Qantas Act rather than saying something to the effect of they welcome the abolition of the Qantas Act. Any changes have to go through parliament first and they're likely to be contentious as previous proposals to amend the act have been. Any amendments will take a lot longer than straight after the election. So everyone, move on, nothing to see here.

The most likely announcement will be what the new A330 cabins will look like. Or an A350 order. Just putting it out there.
