Qantas standards slipping or just bad luck?

We received a beef and mushroom pie for lunch on Saturday in Y. It was quite tasty and there was a knife and fork to eat it with. A chocolate would have been nice to finish the meal.

The only hot things I’ve on Qantas was a sausage roll, the biryani (ok), pasta pasta pasta and a wrap.

Hot drinks aren't loaded on the trolley for full meal flights but if you ask it's a very rare crew that won't get you one once the meal service is over.
Thanks. Usually I've experienced meal trolley then back they come with tea/coffee trolley but not this time.

I’m interested what ppl expect to get for dinner on 1-2hr domestic flight in Y.

I’ve been critical of QF J and F meals on many occasions but in Y always thought they are better than most. Which airlines offer better meals on short haul flights?

Sometimes I’d rather pay a few dollars to get a better selection.

If you are on a 6pm flight and arrive into Hotel let’s say 8.30 - 9pm. It’s a business day the next day. The time it might take to get room service - add in a good 30 minutes. That’s 9.30pm to start eating. Too late for a 6.30am alarm the next morning.

That’s actually one of the reasons I like QF Y dinner. Unlike other airlines (think intra-Europe or US domestic), on QF you get proper meal even on 1hr flight and there is even a choice between hot dish or salad. Sure it’s not the best quality but not worse than what most lounges offer.

But it’s usually pasta. That ends up on your clothes.

Or fly VA and get even less food, but can buy in board, and Generally cheaper than QF.

I had a thai beef noodle salad Mel to Syd a couple of Friday evenings ago - the Salad was quite tasty, the beef strips forgettable but there was plenty. I could not eat it all.

Very rare that I accept the snack or meal on board these days, for domestic at least. I prefer to eat in the lounge. Toasties may not be for everyone but they do me just fine (and if there is a Greek salad there, well, I am a happy camper indeed...)

And who wouldn't be happy with a Greek salad although I would much prefer a Greek horiatiko salad. Capsicum does not go with cucumber/tomato/onion.

I still remember fish and chips wrapped in newspapers. Those were the days.

Oh and what a good use for old newspapers. You can catch up on the news too while eating.

It won't be too long until there are no printed newspapers.

I've always, without fail have been offered a hot option - even if it's during the 'snack' service. For example, on a MEL-SYD at 8pm I was offered a pork bun (similar in style to a gua bao - pls Google), which was piping hot and surprisingly delicious.

All the more credit to the bao as I came off a meal at The Fat Duck when it popped up in MEL (the reason for the flight in the first place)!

Unfortunately, haven't seen it since; on more recent short hauls I'm getting a lot of the 'pasta or beef/lamb salad?' dichotomy.

The box meals in Y have been quite unimpressive lately after a good start. We were offered "bacon chilli pasta" on a flight to BNE. Turned out to be pasta with a lot of soggy eggplant, olives and peas. Not a spec of chilli to be seen and it was bland and unpleasant.

I would have thought that anyone who does not like 'spicy food' (and capsicums are generally considered 'spicy') would consider Capsicum "does not go with anything".
The capsisums I eat, green, red and yellow, are not in the least spicy.

Mum makes wonderful stuffed capsicums with rice and mince. She also makes a wonderful mix of chicken pieces and capsicum that can be put on pasta.

Now chillies on the other hand can be deadly. Sweet chillies can be ok but some of the other varieties are very hot.
