Qantas, it's not me, it's you.

I am just fed up with political commentary from the CEO and being told what I should think and when to think it.
I used to be so proud of being Australian and flying on the Flying Kangaroo. Not anymore.

Is it just me?

Joyce hasn't told anyone to say anything. Staff have been asked to use language that is respectful to everyone.

If having crew refer to you as a 'partner' instead of husband and wife, or 'parents' instead of mum and dad gets you so upset you change your flying habits I suspect you should think about all the bigger problems in the world.

Joyce is a regular commentator in the media regarding his social views. I disagree with that.

Need time to microwave popcorn. If replies could be held off for a couple of minutes, I'd appreciate it ;)

Just to buy time for Must...Fly (and myself) to crack out the popcorn, I ask the OP this question:

So you seriously are saying that you are "no longer proud to be Australian" because of some "political commentary" from an Irish dude???

By Jeezus, I don't like what a lot of people say, but how does this bloke have such power over your life and feelings??

Thanks deniali and Juddles.

OP, I believe it's your reply. Hopefully the popcorn stays warm.

Please share your big bag of popcorn.....

Let this be a lesson for all...... run your own race on your own course, enjoy the journey, and if it so happens that a promotion coincides with your plans, accept the extra as a nice gift. In no way ought it make the choices for you nor "suck you in to permanent loyalty".

While I prefer QF, I think cause it's better at gamification.....because of BFOD, I did try Virgin several times particularly when Govt fares (which like all businesses are paid by the employer) gave complimentary Canberra lounge access (which wasn't obviously promoted) which was decent especially since in-flight service on Virgin is next to nothing.

I have been disappointed with both Aust domestics but at the end of the day, QF do perks value better even if the price is usually higher. PS perhaps my recent comp is an example of this.

Just vote with your wallet like what I did. WP on VA since and none of my staff are allowed to travel on QF. Discussing it here publicly is just going to turn ugly

Of course you are free to chose what airline you fly but banning staff from their choice for your personal opinions seems a little amusing. Would not that be seen as intimidation and restriction on staff freedom of choice? Surely the decision should be made on the relative economics of each airline travel?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Disagree with what? CEO's being able to hold an opinion you don't agree with or the fact the media are happy to quote him on those views?

I think he's pushing his personal agenda beyond that of company expectations. But that's my personal opinion.

I’m not sure what this is all about. Maybe I’ve missed something here.

Also, is this meant for the Playground thread? :)

Edit: Oops. Sorry. I think that it is already. My phone screen is a bit small to tell.

Just realised that it’s about his comments in the media.

Staff only fly Dom (golden triangle, more like MEL-SYD). The only place tickets can be purchased in the company is through the accelerate portal. There are many companies out there that restrict Dom travel to 1 airline.

Of course they are free to choose to fly QF in their own time (and money).

Sure, and that would be a matter for his board to consider. Presumably they have and they don't think its inappropriate since they haven't said anything.

Yes, but he doesn’t control what goes into the media. The media decides what to publish. Yes?

nope. Financially, the company is better off on VA. Frequency of flights is similar.

I am not sure how it would work on larger companies, I am talking about a SME which I own along with other shareholders.

I never thought restricting a choice of airline for staff travel would raise so many eyebrows. You might get a heart attack if you found out my staff don't get to choose the mobile phone provider they have for their work phone, the computers they use, the shipping company they want to ship packages with... etc
