On these forums you read about the better options in every flying class (PE debatable) on other airlines .

So speaking of QF's excellent PE product, how many PE seats (daily/weekly) did QF have into Europe prior to the EK deal, and how many now?

At around 2K more (Qantas around 5k $ and Cathay around 3k $ to LHR), I don't even care :mrgreen:

Yesterday I managed to get the entry price on my QAN shares to below a dollar which is less than what the frequent flyer programme is worth by itself.

That is quite true for PE the times I have looked, but the difference in J is quite stark. Recently looking at CX SYD-HKG-LHR for $7K in September 2013. QF via DXB at least $2K dearer.
 
Usually prices are higher in the home airlines own market compared to foreign carriers. This is not specific to Qantas. Eg SQ is often the most expensive for ex-SIN itineraries
 
Maybe the Pollies should "consider investing" their wonderful super funds into Qantas. Except, if they plummet the tax payer still has to fork out.

Shouldn't the greens be against investing in companies that contribute to carbon emissions ?
 
the qantas crisis

i have read some of the comments regarding the"qantas crisis".

the 1st decision that needs to be made is remove the CEO. and replace him withsomeone who cares about our airline.

i also read of the possibility of the sale of the frequent flyer program. havingbeen through the ansett demise and loosing approx. 500,000 points i don'tintend to sit back silently, and allow that to happen again. if this wasa possibility a class action against qantas to ensure ourposition (points) is secure would be a the way to go:?:

I never thought I'd say this but we need a strong qantas to keep virgin honest!
 
The Greens will today move a motion in the Senate calling on the government to "consider investing" in Qantas.

The motion has been moved. Senator Xenophon sought leave to move an amendment. Leave was denied. The Greens motion was put and carried.

LOL :) I doubt Qantas is down and out for the count yet though... just the cards dealt and all bets played in the latest round of poker, Virgin called Qantas bluff, and they won.

Both sides still have enough chips though, so next hand begins now - hopefully without the CEO's cash cow profit draining 65% strategy.

Interesting to see though if another player wants to be dealt in though?!! (at less than $1 buy in)
 
I find it hard to believe that the QFF program would attract a buyer.

Sure it is worth plenty of money but once it is out of Qantas ownership, QF is free to change pricing or reduce the availability of award and upgrade seats. I can just see them doing that too! Will the other one world alliance members still accept QFF points for their services? If no, not great for the non elite punters bearing in mind the continued contraction of QF international routes.

It's hard enough now for people like me who get their points mostly from credit cards etc to access a lot of QFF benefits eg upgrade priority etc . I can see it getting worse if it sells as QF would think they owe us even less loyalty than they do now.

I am not saying that Qantas elites should lose their benefits but any buyer of QFF will want to maximise their member base and that means more point earners with likely relatively fewer elites in that group ie less chance to get scarce awards and upgrades especially international ones.

Interesting to see what transpires .

LH's M&M just floated, or is about to - think it made something like 700 million EUR last year. There is definitely money in loyalty programs.

I flew SYD to LHR on BA 16/15 in WT+. Their new WT+ product is very good! a great improvement on the old one. I paid about A$3300, QF quoted me A$5700 on the same date SYD LHR return, as BA via SIN. QF Prem. Econ. is slightly better, possibly worth an extra A$100, certainly not A$2400! As an extra bonus you get to fly in and out of LHR T5, as QF Platinum I get to use BA's Galleries Arrivals lounge at T5 even in WT+, flying QF in Prem. Eco. into T3 you are not allowed to use the AA arrivals lounge. I'm afraid QF is not in the race for me.
