I just went to use the Qantas Club in Mackay. They lock it now and I went to enter using my platnium QF card and told that unless I was flying today on Jetstar or Qantas I can't go in. Surprised I said that if you have platnium membership you can go in anytime without a flight to be told we changed the rules, sorry you can't go in. Remove the qantas flights and force people to jetstar out of mackay, and now restrict the lounge, great service to frequent flyers. Well done Qantas, yet again you given have Virgin Blue another "how not to give service" lesson.

Having just spoke to Qantas it appears that the Qantas Club in Mackay is not a Qantas club, rather operated by Sunstate Airlines, and then can therefore change the rules whenever they like. Hats off to Qantas for looking into it (the qantas desk was "very very surprised" to learn of this arrangement. Thumbs down to Sunstate, their serice is normally excellent.

Yep, apparently "QantasLink" lounges are not Qantas lounges...

Hence, the "Plats enter at any time" doesn't have to apply.

Interesting set of arrangements indeed. Wish Qantas/Qantaslink would review that situation.

That said, at various Qld QantasLink lounges, I have seen a few people leave when DJ flights are announced as boarding... So obviously the policy doesn't apply everywhere.

even as a platinum you are now not entitled to enter any QC when you are not flying..... apparently.

I've been rejected and had WP friends asked to leave the lounge before.

.,.. why do you fly qantas again?

The "lounge" has always been like that at Mackay regardless of Jetstar or not. I popped in a few weeks ago to do email (mackay lacks broadband hotels en masse) when I had flown the day before and I explained I just wanted to use the power and hotspot facilities and I was flying the next day, I got access and a pleasant smile as well. Seeing as it is a small room with three couches I dont have a problem, I would be pissed off if I wss on a trip to Gladstone etc and could not get a seat in the lounge because a VB passenger took it!
