Qantas Safety Demo - Olympic Special

The new cricket Australia video is so so much worse, it makes the Olympic video look like an Oscar winner. Even the FA's were embarrassed by it!

The team responsible for these videos needs to be sacked. Makes the airline look so second rate and cheesy. I guess that's what tourists love?

The novelty has worn off. QF can take a leaf off other carriers' videos...like NZ

The two skippers introducing each other is corny at best!

The finale is a shocker. Something along the lines of "These blokes don't listen to me"

I am dreading watching that briefing the whole summer - I might go back on my policy of watching the safety briefing as it is awful.

I couldn't believe this video when I saw it yesterday. I asked one FA and she said that the crew hate it already - especially the applause part and the corny lines. It seems QF are using some sort of 80's guide to advertising in making these safety videos.

I saw the cricket one over a week ago (they must of loaded it onto some international AC before domestic) and completely forgot to mention it. I like the idea in practice but the execution is lacking. The regular business traveller no doubt will have disdain for it but maybe from a communication stand point it works, particularly over the summer leisure season. It was a tad obnoxious.

Still Olympic video last night. This reminded me that it was actually the post Olympics video not the Olympics version. Hence, pedantically, the Olympic video has been gone of a while now.

Sent from the Throne

Bugger, I was looking forward to seeing what all the fuss was about yesterday afternoon, but QF537 still had the post Olympics one.
Two weeks now till I get to experience it!

If the new cricket one was created to make us look fondly upon the Olympics one, it's done its job.

God, I can't believe I'm going to have to watch that twice a week until February.

And for those suggesting QF takes a leaf out of Air New Zealand's book... unfortunately they probably think they are, it's just that they don't have the good taste and/or budget to pull it off. Air New Zealand have a switched-on marketing department and a good advertising agency.

Personally, I'd rather them go back to something completely straight. It might not be entertaining, but at least it won't make you cringe through every painful second of it.

I think for the less experienced traveller (despite me hating it) I think it might actually get people to watch it...

As much as I love Tolkien and this was a fantastic tribute to Peter Jackson's mind blowing work but I couldn't watch that more than a couple of times...

I also think some of the Middle Earth language might confuse some irregular flyers.

Oh - this post in now defends the tripe that is the QF Cricket safety briefing.

Given the holiday period, I think this is indeed the thought behind the cricket theme

For the regular flyers though it may become irritating!

I think the problem isn't for the irregular flyers but those unacquainted with LotR.

I enjoyed viewing the AirNZ LOTR demo but I do wonder what effect novelties like these have. I hope they work and don't have people questioning how the orcs, dwarves and Nazgul managed to get all those weapons through security. Or the horse for that matter...

Oh and I entered the competition!

As for QF at least the voice over doesn't have the worst lisp I've heard since Ita was on TV (c.f. DJ's video "there are thix eckthith on thith Boeing theven thix theven thix hundred...") Can't believe how many times the letter 's' occurs in the video!

Didn't read this whole thread so not sure if it is mentioned, 2 things annoy the cough out of me about the Olympics one.

The nagging voice of one of the chicks, can't remembe which one. I think she says "Take a moment to...."

And the other thing is the volume they pump it through at, unbelievably loud.

I just came back on the QF12 this morning and saw the cricket ad - I didn't mind it but my first thoughts were that the flight was half full of Americans/Canadians who have no idea what cricket is.

Why not keep the cricket one for domestic flights and have a different one outside of that (maybe not involving a sporting team) that is a little more traditional. If you travel internationally, you are less likely to do it regularly so you are more likely to be paying attention anyway. Domestically, people travel far more regularly so that is why they need a 'different approach' to make sure people pay attention to it.

After the commentary on this thread I got to see the cricket video recently and I didn't think it was that bad (although those of you watching it far more often than me may disagree :p). At least it doesn't have the dumb line "We know you're more than capable of operating a seat belt but..." and doesn't rattle on about the Team.

I'm guessing that QF doesn't change videos every so often just to try to annoy us but is responding to studies or research showing that they need to change the tone or delivery style every now and then to try to maintain people's attention.

The "You're the reason we fly" line sounds extremely forced though, even more so than the post-Olympics one. I think if the FA rather than the captain had delivered the line it would have made for a slightly better feel.
