Fortunately this has not happened to me, but I appreciate the warning. If nothing else, a good reminder to check your bookings regularly or setup EF alerts (as I occasionally do) irrespective of airline.

Or use the very handy My Flights app!

Very interesting and smart from Qantas. I have never come across this..thanks for sharing

I have just checked my booking on QF9 in July, I went from WP to SG in December. My seat had changed from 12B to aisle while my partner in 12A was still allocated, their status hadn't changed.

Well this seems to suggest this really is a "thing" rather than just one person seeing weirdness. That's.. really not good.

Out of interest are you and partner on same booking, or separate? If on same booking that seems odd to move you and not your partner.

Haven't used this before - is it good? May check it out.

It is most excellent - it monitors your bookings and automatically alerts you when your seat assignment has changed and also displays useful information like the fare class and ticket number. The bonus is that it's completely free to use with no limits on alerts sent. Only caveat is that it works only for Amadeus bookings.

Dare I say it .........

Another QF Enhancement?

Seems quite unfair to me. Once seats are selected they should stick unless there's an operational reason to change. Luck of the draw I suppose if aircraft change but for a status downgrade only I think it is poor form.

On the upside, higher status pax may be able to snare their preferred seat at a later date if someone drops status. All the more reason for seat alerts.

Both of us on the same booking, but interestingly QF27 in PE no change to seats for either of us

I dropped from WP to SG and stayed in Emerald City for a booking that I'd made to LHR when WP.
I've been bounced out of my preselected Y seats, as a requalified WP, on multiple occasions domestically, often at the gate, for no appreciable reason so it does pay to keep on top of it.

Not a good sign.

I use My Flights also. Excellent.

Just checked a return booking I have in late Feb from MEL to BNE (always a 737). I'm sure I would have chosen seats when I booked, and my status hasn't changed since then (SG), but looking now, the allocation is gone for both flights and it just says Window. I'm thinking the status downgrade excuse has nothing to do with these allocations disappearing...

Just to confirm It was all my future flights 2 of them trans Tasman and others regional. There has been no change in aircraft configuration nor have I been accessing the booking via partner websites. :D

My main point of this was to alert others to the possible change should they lose and or drop status levels at some point.

For me I trust that I will be able to select the seats wanted when I regain WP on Saturday.

I shall go from Gold to WP with in 21 days of losing WP so not too worried and that would give me WP through to December 2018.

If you would like to PM me your booking reference and name on the booking I can pull the PNR history to see what really happened with your seating.
