A few weeks ago I booked a QF flight from SYD to CBR in late November. I paid cash to buy the red e-deal fare then used points to upgrade to J. Today, I received an email that equipment swap to that flight resulting in me travelling on an aircraft that has no business class. After accepting the changes, I didn't see the points I used deposited back to my account.

Do I need to wait or should I call QF to get them refunded?

If you are not in a hurry to get your points back you might want to wait up to 4 weeks and see if they credit automatically before calling. This has happened to me before on PER-BME and once the points were credited back without intervention and the other time I had to follow it up.

Called QF on their North American number (as I'm presently in Canada) and surprisingly got through real quick. After a few minuets the agent got everything sorted and the points were refunded. Managed to secure the final U seat on QF483 in November an A330 with lie-flat seats and QF494 for the return on the aforementioned A330. I don't know about you folks, but I find QF's J service to be prompt and have managed to get both a meal and a quick nap in the lie flat seat.
