How about a QF A321XLR to SIN, and then connect to other QF flights to LHR? Would that suffice?

That personally has no interest but perhaps it does for some. If I’m going to do a 1 stop trip to London we do have several better quality airlines at our disposal.
I’d probably only fly QF out of ADL if it was direct to somewhere currently not served like BKK for example

So the back rows of economy on the A350 ULR are going to have *reduced* seat pitch (32)

That’s so they can set up some economy plus rows up the front with 34 inch pitch without reducing the total number of seats

Imagine how pissed you’d be spending 22 hours and paying a premium for that.

first sunset soon after departure from SYD, first sunrise up in the north pacific around japan latitude, then sunset again when its north of Alaska and the sunrise into LHR.

Probably only rarely, , as it seems (and has been mentioned) most likely to do this route during the northern winter . At the end of Feb London sunrise is at 6:50am.

QFi is not my preferred carrier - I like WY from and to MNL - but a proposed 0800 hours departure from LHR at least allows passengers to arrive at the airport on the Elizabeth line as the latter's first train arrives Heathrow at about 0500 hours.

However 0800 is too early to allow passengers travelling by train from say Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester or Sheffield to connect, and ditto for the minority who fly within the UK.

An 0500 arrival ex SYD in LHR may be OK for businessmen wanting an early start for the day but is a horrible time if you're a leisure traveller as most hotels don't allow check-in until 1500 or so (granted, one can be lucky with a sympathetic desk clerk on the odd occasion if a room was unoccupied the previous night). The thought of arriving in central London by say 0645 on a February morning doesn't excite.

In an ideal world if the slot was available, a 1200 'high noon' departure from LHR would be better but could mean lower aircraft utilisation. QFi might also be worried about the prospect of late running from Heathrow meaning the aircraft fails to 'make' curfew in Sydney the next night.

0800 departure meaning arriving at LHR maybe 0500
then leaving London hotel maybe 0400 am to Elizabeth line then to checkin
That means maybe getting up at 0300am.

I suppose 0800GMt = 1800hrs AEST.
So really we should not sleep the last night in London

It’s 32-34 according to what I read (only 30% will have 32).

Even still, is 21 hours in 32 any worse than 9 + 14 hours in same?

But what is not true is that there is an equal amount of interest and international traffic headed to MEL as a gateway to Australia as there is into SYD. SYD continues to dominate this metric with more than half of all overseas visitor arrivals to the country starting out there.

If there are more flights into Sydney it seems logical you'll get more visitor arrivals into Sydney. Chicken and egg innit.

Our o/s friends (north america and UK) when coming to AU all had similar expectations that visiting absolutely must include the Opera House, the coat hanger, the great barrier reef and holding a drop bear. Even though they were coming to stay with us (then living in Melbourne), they flew to Sydney first to tick off the first two must dos and then travelled to Melbourne.
