Qantas Project Sunrise goes ahead, 12 new A350-1000s ordered

As for not getting a chance to stretch the legs, on the 17 hr flight my step counter clocked 3000 steps. If you make the effort you can stretch your legs.
The stretching the legs is to sleep! With 31 inch pitch, it you’re tall, your legs and knees usually have to remain in the sitting position. With those extra 2-3 inches you can then stretch them out! ANA and JAL make economy travel bearable (just) because of that comfort.

There seem to be enough people/ companies willing to pay for it. I usually don’t even fly Qantas to Europe as much better OneWorld airlines are usually cheaper and I’d pick Cathay or Qatar over Qantas any day.

Saying that- if they ever fly from Sydney to Europe proper (Paris or better even, Frankfurt), then I will fork out the gazillion Dollars to fly this in paid First one single time for the novelty. But that’ll be it.

I would love to do these flights once, for the sake of doing the longest flight in the world. I've also never done an inaugural, and I reckon this would be a cool one to do. But I'd probably just do it in Y - see how bad the longest flight in the world is with 33 inches of legroom :D (plus none of the media would be about the Y experience lol)

Pitch never replaces width. QF 787 is 32Inch pitch and you can happily stretch your legs out. It's still miserable if 2 adults sit next to each other. QF MEL-PER-LHR was routinely available at around $1500 pre COVID (often one of the cheapest full service options). The airbus might attract a premium Y price if it offers greater width, but additional pitch is really not a sales proposition.
Agree, the width is garbage. There is a myopic focus on seat pitch.

I'd say that's because they're doing the same as everyone else in the whole industry. Can't market or talk about something that is the same globally where as seat pitch is up to each airline.
