Personally, my single most annoying gripe about QF is the inconsistency of the product.

You have the new J domestic A300-200 with the 2-3-2 (IMO, only premium economy and NOT J standard) and now you have todays announcement.

“Qantas will also increase capacity between Perth and Melbourne by more than 2,000 seats per week by adding four return services from 17 April, including three operated by A330-300 aircraft."

Latest Qantas News

You NOW have 3 different standards of J domestic product flying between Perth and Melbourne, excluding the dated product on the 767's

Do others agree?

I agree to a point.

However, you can combat inconsistency of the hard product by endeavouring to be selective and pick your equipment. (i.e. 333 in J anytime ;))

What to me is the greater issue is the wide variance in the quality of the Service provided from flight to flight.

This is absolutely dependant on the FA team doing the service (or not doing it for that matter).

Over the years and many many flights I have come across all levels of service. The only constant I have found is the in-consistency.:-|

I agree to a point, but I am not really sure of the benefits of skybeds on flights across Australia that are not normally ones I see lots of folk asleep on. I think in this case it was simply a case of what product was available to provide the capacity.

I think the problem is that Qantas have a domestic config, and an international config and are seeming to be trying to offer a 'mid haul' product trans-con and trans-tasman, and it seems a work in progress.

Personally, as mainly a Y traveller, I prefer the domestic Y A330's to the international A333's. Having said that, I'd take either over just about any other trans-con offering from any carrier Iincluding the QF alternatives) on the market at present,

Of course this isn't always practical on some flights where QF have VERY limited capacity (ie. HBA)....

Oh and even if you do attempt to combat the the inconsistency of the hard product they can always sub it to a lesser hard product, for example a 738 to 734 (Which is more comparable to PE rather than J)*

*Thats right, I'm not letting this go, I'm still peeved about it

When TAA put the first business class cabin into the A300 it was pretty much economy with more legroom (and the then first class meal)

Take a look: YouTube - TAA - Introduces Business Class

It's a bit of a problem as product improves over time with the older product, but that is just what happens when the product evolves over time. I sometimes wonder how much business has evolved back into what was first class.

Not a problem for me, I pay or my own company pays, and I don't have money to throw away on J domestic.

Yes unfortunately QF cabin crew can be consistently inconsistent. Or is that inconsistent consistently?

Just as well DJ never sells premium economy in economy only configured aircraft otherwise we would have nowhere to go.

LOL! If I had posted that statement there would be posts jumping down my throat. But I do agree that domestic business class is throwing money away. $600 one-way for ~1 hour SYD-BNE/MEL flight in business class. Sounds like great value. Yeah right....

Ahh, JohnK - r u feeling no one understandis you? :( I for one wouldn't have jumped down your throat! Particularly as I agree with you - I tend to use points to pay for upgrades rather than cash - and since I don't fly domestic very much at all (maybe 1-2 times a year), then it is no big deal. Even then, I don't see the point of upgrading for a 60 minute flight - SYD-ADL or further, probably!

Or SYD-PER for $1600 (or over $2k with a CBR connection), one way
