Qantas press conference Monday - AJ

QF can't even see the growth potential in their own country let alone others...

Its like every other airline is using a different calculator to QF to add flights while they cut them...

I guess it is not as popular as I thought. 11hours in J on an A330 does not appeal to me.

Qantas has not had much success with their mainland services, used to do Beijing as well for some time with QF metal half the year, Air China the other half. China is the country with the highest origin of inbound tourism to Australia but QF cannot compete with the locals.

I believe when JQ launched flights to PEK (via SIN) it operated daily but I noticed that this has now reduced to 3x per week...

In fairness, it was not QF which raised any expectations. They sent a media alert to the media saying there was to be a press conference this morning - and the media then alerted us.

Probably would have been better if we'd not been told!

Well said John!

There are some definite benefits to AFF when it comes to knowledge sharing and for that SWMBO and myself will be forever grateful. But at times there are drawbacks such as this instance where people jump to a whole host of random conclusions then go in a huff when their dream and aspiration is not realised. This is nothing to do with QF!

Now, back to work! :)

Not sure anyone is in a huff (SA and WA members can be excused) :). Interesting to read the speculation, the major events are often nailed here before a press release or event, at least the operational issues involving aircraft and or airports, thanks to the odd insider or townsville refueller.

I think it's pretty ordinary to promote one state ahead of any other in such a significant way. And completely jettison other states from their network.

Totally agree.

Hence why I just burned nearly all my points on 1 QF classic award (one way) to sample F before I transition to *Alliance for my international flights from now on.

I don't know that it is necessarily an exlusive deal with NSW. It may just be that it is the first one that has been announced.

Not a whole lot of point WA (or SA or NT??) signing such an agreement since QF don't really fly anyone here, at least from internationally...

Our tourism mobs really aught to throw some cash at EK or SQ or someone interested...

I seem to recall QF announced a similar deal with Tourism Qld a few weeks ago. It's not just NSW, it's just that they're doing individual deals with individual state tourism bodies now.

It's actually quite sad. I've been to dinner with them both and at that stage they were getting on really well.

Well Geoff and friends has been circling around QF for a while, so I guess AJ has a legitimate gripe, while he tries to reshape the QF group in tough times.

All my international travel now fair and square in the sq camp... Qantas clearly not interested in ADL pax

Well I think both Alan Joyce and Leigh Clifford should both grow up and concentrate on their jobs rather than allowing their little feuds to impede and make life more difficult for the australian tourism and airline industries.
