Qantas Points Expiry - Warning!

Bearing in mind it is a QF Frequent Flyer/QF loyalty programme (I know woolies/banks etc are on the bandwagon) if you have shown no loyalty or frequency in 18 months then your value to them is low. Conversely. as many on this site have opined the "loyalty" for those who are loyal appears one way all too often.

Qantas Loyalty is a coalition program with the name from an airline. Frequent flyer is a product of Qantas Loyalty. Don't be confused.

As an example, this link will show you activity for March 2014.
OK - I was doing a quick test and modified the link based on the last two date parameters.

Changing all three does works.

Having posted that, it still is the case that Qantas no longer make it simple (for most) for a member to locate their date of last activity if 13 or more months ago.

So I just logged into my QFF account on the desktop and I couldn't find anywhere on the page obvious any mention of points expiring. Of course I did earn some today, but still... that's disappointing tbh Maybe it's there and I'm missing it but if so it's not obvious enough.

While I am an advocate for people being responsible and keeping track of things like this, I also feel it should be stated that points DO expire if no activity within 18 months (or whatever the timeframe is). Now most of us know this, and 95% of us earn on a regular basis through one means or another so it's not an issue, but for Joe Everyperson who doesn't, it's not obvious - and I think it should be.

When I log in to Krisflyer I get this-
[h=2]Expiring miles[/h]You don't have KrisFlyer miles expiring in the next six months.

So come on QF,not hard to do.

On this, it appears virtually impossible if your last activity was more than 12 months ago to determine exactly when it was using solely www.qantas.com/frequentflyer .

You need to find other means such as calling or emailing Qantas Frequent flyer to find out.

Reminder functions on calendars on smartphones have thousands of uses.
I use mine to remind me of friends and families birthdays, rego expiries etc, could easily put an annual reminder in "tocheck QFF points" which would be 6 months prior to them expiring.
I agree get a Woolworths Everyday rewards and shop there even once a year

But KF operate on a different expiry rule logic based on the date you actually earned that point

But Velocity points expire 24 months from the date of the last activity and QFF 18 months from the date of the last activity-no difference to KF except further activity doesn't save them so the computer can still be set.

Even Avianca, who are not known for the greatest customer service, manage to let you know when your miles are expiring - I just got this email from them today:

In LifeMiles you are a very important member and we have noticed that in the past months you haven´t had activity with our program and we want to remind you that currently you have 12,500 miles due to expire on January 31st, 2017

Clear and to the point. Now why can't QF do that instead of burying the information?

(anyone know what I could do with 12500 lifemiles? :) )

Buy a 1000 for $33 USD and keep them alive until 2019 or a big promo comes up.
That's what I just did after the same email hit my inbox for a family members account

They're keen enough to warn about expiring vouchers.
But I guess that's in their interest.

"This voucher is valid until 05-Apr-2017 after which your booking will be cancelled.
Please redeem your voucher anytime before the advised date online at [link removed].
We look forward to welcoming you onboard soon."

I guess there are parallels between points expiring and gift cards that expire some 6-12 months after purchase.
I guess the lack of warning with gift card expiry annoys a fair few people as well.

I had a voucher expire without warning and I emailed the company to say that the lack of warning was unacceptable. Voucher was immediately reinstated.

Is that online or an email? I haven't seen any warning of gift vouchers expiring other than when I've used a gift voucher and residual gift voucher appears in my bookings with expiry date.

I received it last week by email, so three months before expiry.

It started life as a gift voucher and used to book a flight which was subsequently cancelled.

Agree it is a bit sneaky to just wipe the points, but the other way to look at it is that by having a % of points break, it allows the airlines (or supermarkets) to give those of us who are active and make the most of the points / gift cards a higher level of benefit than would otherwise be possible. I am sure that Woolworths fund the 5 or 6% discount that can be had on purchasing Wish Gift cards from the % that are purchased and never find their way into the store to be redeemed. I am happy to diligently get 5 or 6% off my shop everytime.
