Are we invited to the flight? Or am I dreaming?

I'm outbid now at 10:14 - but as were both in Brisbane you would have been invited.

My family is in Sydney - so.... and enough people think I'm crazy for credit card churning - happy that I don't have to explain JASA's and FASA's or buying tickets on expedia brazil anymore.

Coincidentally, I was just dealing with someone at work with the same name and initials...

I am clearly missing something. The prize is 31 return economy trips from Melbourne to Devonport. That would have a normal redemption value of under 500,000 points (Classic Rewards). And that would let you stay in DPO as long as you liked, not just for a day. OK, there's lounge access too and a set of PJs, but really not seeing 2.2 million points worth of value here.

Aside... I did see the PJ's included and it made me laugh thinking of PJ's on a Dash8 (I know it says to use later or something like that lol). anyway seems to me they must have SO MANY PJ's they're giving them away with just about everything. Soon they will come with toasters and perhaps sent to P1's in lieu of a Christmas gift. Talk about dumping stock!

Perhaps QF could just dump the Dash8s and replace them with 717s or A220s

I would bid on that!

We all place value on something at an individual level. Technically you are right, but can you get 31 reward seats on the same flight? I personally wouldn't bid for this item as it doesn't hold value for me.

However, this sort of experience would create some kind of story for someone, a romance if you will. Something to tell the grandkids perhaps.

Having a story behind an item can give it great value. This is called Provenance. I realise this is normally attributed to an item, but the intent can be there for an experience also I believe.

Is the flight long enough to allow sufficient time for all pax to get changed into and out of them? ;)

Thinking aloud - they could have given the winner a genuine choice about where to go. E.g. from MEL you might have picked Kangaroo Island, Coober Pedy with a desert tour, Mildura with dinner at Stefano's thrown in, Orange to see how not to do lockdowns, ...

I suspect the issue there is about route authorities or something like that. eg if QFLink don't usually fly Melbourne - Coober or Kangaroo Island that would probably require permits and authorities and the like - may even be a pilot or aircraft issue from certain bases. Noting the flight restrictions are in lower season months (well in normal not crazy times at least) I suspect they are looking to utilise otherwise idle aircraft during periods of lower demand and at less cost (eg: say you want to go to Coober, what about ground handling etc? )

I do agree the headline "charter a Dash 8" is a bit misleading in that respect.

Given it's stayed at 2.2M for some hours now I suspect someone put in the 500kish bid in as a bit of an ambit claim or rather to put off anyone else from grabbing it. WIll be interesting to see if more bids turn up and for how much.

It's all relative if the person had millions of points dropping 2M may have been of little or no concern.

Well, I suppose so.

I did buy some wine with points a few months ago since I can't use my points in the air.
