Have Qantas change their policy? Previously I had successfully claim for Business Fare Qantas Point and Status Credit after bidding upgrade with Malaysia Airlines for a number of times. The recent trip was unsuccessful as the Qantas agent pointed to me that all bid upgrade now only paid base on original booking.

No.

It sounds like MH's upgrade bidding system has moved you to a fare bucket which earns at revenue business class rates. Qantas credits SC based on information provided to them by MH.

The recent trip was unsuccessful as the Qantas agent pointed to me that all bid upgrade now only paid base on original booking.

Was your recent trip on Qantas or a partner airline? Bid Now upgrades on Qantas will earn at the original fare rates.

So in the past when I have credited QF flights to BA, when I have been successful at upgrade bidding to business, I have had the miles credit in the BA program at J rates. I know this is not in accordance with the "rules" and I can't complain if it doesn't happen in the future, but that's what has happened.

Wow :O I never knew that you could earn SC and points for the upgraded fare. I always thought one would earn based on the fare they've paid/purchased.

If this is how MH works, then I'm happy to do my trips to Asia on MH and bid for an upgrade :)

There's certainly no guarantee this will be the case. If it happens then great, but never bank on it.

Keep in mind MH business class from Australia to Malaysia (and onwards to London) will only credit at Flex Y rates as per the partner earn categories table.

Cash upgrades on BA own flights work this way whereas points upgraded earn at original. Looks like the software carries through to partners when crediting to BAEC.

it’s for domestic travels within malaysia and previously after bid upgrade the fare class become class I which entitles business Qantas Points and Status Credits. the agent told me that only normal paid upgrade (non bidding or using points) gets business qantas points and status credits.

The agent is correct. Sounds like something has changed on MH's end.
