Re: Qantas denies pocketing $100 million from card surcharges

I can accept a fee being PER transaction, but what has the number of passengers got to do with it?
10 Pax @ $100 each or 1 Pax @ $1000 = the same Transaction that is pumped through the credit card being used...

Why be a petty criminal when you can just run a big business and keep it legal?

Reminds me of when Homer Simpson opened a car park in his front yard and charged $10 per axle.

Then why does QF not charge a CC fee when tickets are purchased on the SIN or HKG versions of the website?

Complain about the 3% foreign source charge that the banks add... OTOH the ticketing price reductions more than make up for the bank fees.

Happy wandering (except in the banking systems)

actually that's an interesting point. When I have had to call AU to book exBKK awards (because of the 'must sight card in office rule' they have charged me the award assistance fee, but not a credit card fee.

Maybe QF are using this to cook the books?

i.e. They include all CC surcharges they have to pay and all CC surcharges they collect for all bookings made/to/from anywhere, rather than just for the locations where they do charge the fee.

I thought i read that argument somewhere - that they take the total cost of CC fees and divide by the number of tickets they can levy the charge on (which might only be AU domestic and international ex AU). That's how they arrive at the flat fee. So it is not directly related to each individual ticket, but rather to the whole.

unfortunately in the absence of transparency it is open to speculation.

Speculation it may be, but in wich case, people booking ex Oz are subsidising people booking from other countries.

No one on AFF should have to pay the CC fee while booking on QF.com (except JASAs)... Funny thing is that I explained the process to a colleague the other day and she found it too confusing and said that it's easier to just pay the $7.70

Hint: see Serfty's post

I agree with you. my point was that in the absence if transparency by any airline as to its charges then we, the passengers, have little option but to draw conclusions, which may be negative.

Now the business has been separated into "two", what happens with CC sector fees? Immediately you can see the QFd has an overwhelming advantage in collecting surchages compared to QFi!

..and I am of the view that if they want to charge a fee, then it should be a percentage of the transaction.
Agreed.

Anyway most on AFF should not be paying a credit card surcharge on simple one-way or return bookings. ;)

Part of the reason for me using the JQ CC as my primary card is to avoid the CC surcharge/ripoff when booking JQ. Flying domestically I use the bpay method, internationally I just suck it up as "cheap travel insurance"!

Just discovered that similar rule applies to DJ flights that reduces the cc fee to $2.60. And if one is a good planner, then that's all one pays in cc fees over 10 flights or 12 months (which ever comes first).

I don't know this one. Can you point me in the direction of the pertinent thread please (hope it doesn't involve getting a specific type of card) :?:

Nah, it's been mentioned before in another thread but is seems you initially book from "Winter Haven", Fl (GIF) to Vichadero, Uy (VCH).

From an earlier post... ;)
