To all the newly-minted Platinum One frequent flyers out there... I'm curious to hear... what's been your experience so far?

Anything different?

Free upgrades?

... or all hype?

Based on conversations with several members of the team I managed to get the following.

P1 Members runs 2500 to 4000 per annum it varies as you could imagine
No plans to Reduce the required Status Credits for LTP
There are less than 100 LTP
The Spa will be reopening by the end of the month or very close to it.
Project Sunrise is well advanced and it will have A new First Class- Business Suites- PE and a small Y cabin in a 3-3-3 lay out and will be the widest seat in Y they have ever put into an aircraft.

I will share some other details on the New First and the new business suites in a different post.

P1 Benefits are returning as in Events and special invites.
There will be sub fleets of the 320 based on how they are applied IE one for the Golden Triangle, one for Transcon and Asia

I didn't get to ask the all the questions I wanted but it was a very positive night.

LTP will remain unattainable even for most of those with P1 status then.

Project Sunrise is still a long way from taking flight so I presume it’s possible plans could change between now and when they have to make final decisions on seating. Still with the extra long flight making Y a little more comfortable whilst it still being uncomfortable enough to encourage booking higher fare classes does make a lot of sense.

From what I got last night the seats are already decided on and ready to go just awaiting final sign off. I was shown the actual seat map which is heavily premium cabin focused.

The plan is for them to commence flights in 2025 so not a real long time in terms of aircraft planning and manufacturing.

I have to report a very underwhelming experience that’s far from my expectation.
I’ll try to be brief.

I have an existing QF Award on JL F from LHR in the next few weeks.
Due to the current conflict in Ukraine I wanted to have a back up plan.
I rang up yesterday and requested a seat on QF2/10 variety of dates. None were granted but the agent put them through for manual request.
I checked my bookings this morning and saw that they were all on the same PNR as my existing Award (a bit odd) but that one of them had been confirmed.

I rang up to fix the ticket. Have now been told that as it was requested within my original award they cannot ticket it unless I cancel my JL seat.
They cannot separate it out to a different ticket as I will lose my QF seat and have to request it again (the flight is D0 so that isn’t happening).

Not happy Jan

May I ask how many seats you were after, late last year I was knocked back for x1 J seat (before manual intervention reintroduced). In the not too distant future I will be looking J seats (possibly F) for either x3 on the same flight or x1 and x2 a day later.

If you are wanting 3 seats you’d ideally find flights with 1 or 2 classic award seats available, book those then request the additional seats you need.

I am P1 and normally there is not much of an issue in getting at least 2 in J and on some routes I have been able to get 3 in J. AU-UK-AU is not so easy and there have been times when I have not been able to see any reward seats. Seat release request as a P1 in F seats can come from the F and A buckets and for J from D and I buckets.

One seat and the flight was D0 I0

Pardon my ignorance.

What is a "D0 I0" ?
Business class fare buckets.
J C D I
J being full fare most expensive business seat and moving downwards from there, I is discount business fare.
You have a chance of getting a seat released if they are selling cheaper fare buckets on that flight. D0 I0 on the flight I asked so no discount business seats available for sale.

It’s generally the case that Platinum can ask for a manual review if I class is available and Platinum One if D class is available

And “U”. Our favourite business class fare bucket.

That is so weird your rwquested QF flight was added to the existing PNR. That sounds like an agent screw up at the first hurdle. Glad VIP sorted it our for you PF and good luck with the trip given the current circumstances.. definitely makes sense to be a bit nervous to potentially travel via Japan with the airspace issues going om.

Good to hear.
So the VIP team could not separate the ticket in the first place, it was then escalated to another team via the VIP team and then then ticketed?
Yes that’s kind of what happened.
It was escalated internally and I had a call back from the VIP team the next day saying that it was resolved and could be ticketed.

I am CL and one of my close friends in P1. We both flew the same route with each other to see what services are on offer for us. He recieved exit row seating in Economy despite business being empty whilst I recieved an op-up. Also, upon landing an escort (I know it sounds naughty) was ready to take me to my next flight. He did not recieve one. However, his bags did arrive at our final destination before mine.
Hey did you go to Scots?
