Apparently some news coming on aircraft soon.

London and New York (As previously announced) first cabs off the rank. Paris and Frankfurt also mentioned.

All Sunrise flights will be carbon neutral with all passengers being carbon offset.

Qantas resumes plans for ultra long-haul flights

Qantas is not far away from ordering aircraft needed for non-stop flights to London, New York and Paris and has also announced all Project Sunrise flights will be fully carbon offset by the airline.

EDIT: To correct No News reporting standards ;)

Another related story on the carbon offset part / linked to the new Sunrise ULH flight plan.

Interesting that 10% of QF passengers carbon offset - highest in the world apparently.

I do, for every flight actually.

How Qantas is fighting the rise of ‘flight-shaming’

Qantas will offset all carbon emissions on its ambitious “Project Sunrise” flights from Australia’s east coast to New York and London to fight the rise of “flight-shaming”, which chief executive Alan Joyce says had stopped Europeans from travelling to Australia with concerns over their personal carbon footprint.

Qantas is two weeks away from ordering aircraft needed for non-stop flights to London, New York and Paris and has also announced all Project Sunrise flights will be fully carbon offset by the airline.
The article says:
"Speaking at the a business summit on Wednesday, Qantas CEO Alan Joyce revealed the airline was two weeks away from ordering the aircraft needed for the flights, when the pandemic struck."

But still good news if there is announcement by the end of the year. That will mean work for those of us staying at QF given then uncertainty of the A380 in the future.

Article is paywalled so cant read, but certainly would be a good time to buy. Wondering if a trade-in of (?half, all??) the A380s is on the cards. Hard to imagine the A350 wont win this unless Boeing absolutely gives away the 777.

That's quite different to what's been quoted from The Australian in post #1, i.e. that Qantas is now two weeks away from an order! I can't read the article as paywalled - I assume the newspaper has taken the quote out of context?

I'm not sure how the quote was posted by the OP, but the very first line in the article is:
"Qantas has announced it will look at resuming plans for ultra long-haul flights before the end of this year."

Ah, thanks.

Just copied and pasted as I always do, but forgot to add that the Australian is owned by No News so accuracy is optional clearly ;)

I'll edit their words so no more confusion

Wasn't this already decided (in favour of the A350)?

Nothing is a done deal until the orders are placed. Yes, I understand the A350 was the preferred option, but who knows what new deals may be on the table now. A lot has changed in the airline supply chain in a short period of time.

Agree and Boeing has been slaughtered with the 737MAX disaster then covid..... Might be able to offer some massive incentives to keep QF onside......

I fully support carbon-offset, but how does Qantas actually do it?

They don’t administer the scheme they give it to a NFP I believe I looked into it once... QF is the #1 airline in the world with passengers offsetting flights actually which is interesting.
