QANTAS is poised to return to some routes currently only served by its budget subsidiary Jetstar. This comes as the Qantas Group moves to recalibrate its operations to take advantage of a rebound in business travel demand.
In an extensive interview with The Australian, Jetstar chief executive Bruce Buchanan said the move would reflect the group's confidence that it achieved the best results by deploying both brands on key sectors.

Let the rumours and speculation begin! ;)

One rumour floating around are SE Qld routes being supplemented with QF/QFLink services...... We can but hope!

Perhaps DJ trying to reinvent and move upmarket will also help drive the return of QF on top of the recovering corporate market....

Interesting!

The only route I could see Qantas returning to is: Sydney-Gold Coast.

Interesting to see if former customers take them back after being shafted onto Jetstar

Or if they just stick to DJ rather than bothering to change

I hope Melbourne / Newcastle gets a look in... Im travelling this route quite a bit now, DJ are happy, Im not...

I would very happily like to see QF back in OOL… though with lounge access or I couldn’t care less!

Lounge access at Gold Coast will be the thing to watch, IMO!*

If they don't return the lounge to Qantas Club, but keep it as a Lounge by Jetstar operating as a Qantas "Associated" Lounge (i.e. access for QP & SG only when travelling on a QF code) are we are likely to see a range of other QPs (in locations where DJ isn't establishing lounges) transition to Jetstar, thus removing access for SG & QP unless travelling on a QF(/1W) code, and removing WP "anytime access"?

* Obviously I assume that QF will make a return to OOL.

With the shiny new OOL terminal, I wonder where QF might put the QP - if the rumor is true. The JQ "lounge" is hardly up to QP standards.

Of course it's all rumors but I would be happy with a Q400 service and access to the JP for status pax for OOL.....

Guess we we have to wait and see. Cairns is also earmarked for more QF metal...

You do get access to the JP now as a WP flying JQ, essentially the same rights as an associated domestic lounge or regional lounge. Wish the QPs had a pancake machine!

What new terminal?

The JQ "lounge" is hardly up to QP standards.

Have you been in it? It’s got alcohol 24/7, comfy couches, is hardly crowded, and the food is all really good. About the only person that would have a problem with the food is someone not keen on Japanese stuff, but it’s a hub for Japanese operations ;)

Pancake machine is good too!

It’s well above QP standards.

Actually the JQ lounge is the former QP OOL lounge, its just been repainted and refitted with orange regalia everywhere, although it doesnt feel quite as nice given theres no natural light coming into it anymore.

I'd love to see QF return to SYD-OOL vv., it's interesting because about 6 months before they pulled it, a QF rep told me the route had become profitable for the first time in 10 years, and then they pull it.

The cynic in me thinks they pulled it because it allowed them to then close the QP which would have been predominatly used by pax on JQ flights given only twice dailys by QF.

Fingers crossed, would save going up to BNE as much, even though the new OOL terminal is a bit of a joke...feels more like a food hall than an airport waiting area.

I heard the exact same thing - the rationalisation to a couple of 734/H flights a day in the last few months actually pushed their margins up as all the corporates got used to the schedule that QF metal flew and they pulled in some decent coin towards the end.... 'Aircraft utilisation' was the reason given for pulling out (privately at least) - publically they maintained the 'Losing money / Leisure only' story.

Perhaps my satisfaction of just having a Q400 service is low balling then! :p

Please let the Mel- Ool start again, make my life so much easier, I like the JQ lounge actually too, will be a bit different if qantas start flying there again, it will start to get busy, then the seagulls will start to appear, whenever food is on the horizon...

It seems that I am in the minority (of one?!) in not being too fond of the JQ lounge at OOL. I have been in it twice, both times for an OMG departure. Unimpressed, but the staff were much friendly than the dragons in any QP in the country.

Now I time my arrival to allow me to walk from car though security onto the aircraft, generally without stopping.

Having a pathological dislike of DJ, I fly JQ at least twice a month, if I cannot be bothered with the Airtrain etc. Although, if I fly out of BNE I get to go J. It is all about timing.

I do hope that QF come back to OOL. Even with those ancient 737 they seem to use on the MEL - CBR run. OOL/SYD/MEL would be most convenient for me.

Seems the most likely reason for Qantas flagging a return.

One would think
MEL-OOL
SYD-OOL
MEL-DRW
are first on the list if they are going back into routes previously ("recently") vacated.

One also wonders if some more QF metal out of CNS would also be on the list.

MEL-NTL seemed like a bloodbath at one stage, suspect that will take some convincing.

This might be moving off topic, but wonder if part of this is protecting QF from a more upmarket DJ as a J offering / better offering for businesses ex-OOL and ex-NTL would move significant corporate to DJ (or have been lost already). I seem to recall one or two members around here who've moved their business to DJ due to only having JQ ex-OOL or NTL.

It's hard to see mainline QF to too many other desitnations.
