Qantas Mystery Flight Adventure

Google image search reveals where the Sydney destination might be (using pictures in the QF promo), and if it and the speculation above is right might represent better value (in terms of distance) than the speculated Melbourne destination (3.8x distance). Do we think those images are representative of where the destinations are, or just examples?
I'd love for the SYD flight to be to HTI but I don't think we can rely on those promotional pictures to be representative.

(As a data point, commercial ecomomy Flex fares on 18 April are currently $817 return.)

Pondering the annoyance of arising at 1am and try to book 2 j seats .. or take my chances at 6am in cattle… decisions decisions….
later…..
duuuuh.. just re read the blurb.. tickets on sale at midday.. so an on line queue and a lucky dip.. wonder if the ta has an allocation..hmmmmmm

Oh, I'm a Points Club Plus member and did not get an invite to a pre-sale. May be because I don't live in Brisbane/Sydney/Melbourne.
I'm points club plus in Melb and didn't get a pre-sale email so must have just beeen P1.

Assuming the mystery flight out of MEL is to LST, would it be fair to assume that despite the day commencing at 7am they will actually be using the scheduled 0830 service and returning on the 1655 service arriving 1800? These flights are available for booking now at the usual prices of $116 including via points at 8,000 (Not $737 etc). Business paid/points is not available on qf.com for this flight, so it’s possible this is just the usual service using a single class 717-200 all economy config and the mystery flight is indeed a 737 aircraft Operating a very different flight number etc. Strangely enough though, almost every other LST service other than on May 1st offers business class.

In the unlikely event that this is the same aircraft and flight, surely Qantas must have some sort of check in place to ensure people aren’t just guessing the flights, booking them in anticipation in an attempt to attract all the benefits stated for the ‘mystery flight’. If not, it could be a neat back door ticket, especially with full flexibility on points tix.

So it seems one likely destination is Orange (ex BNE) and the other is Launceston (ex MEL). The URL behind the tropical image has catseye-beach-view-hamilton-island-hotel in it so it may be Hamiliton Island ex SYD.

I was thinking of joining the MEL trip as the timing suited but I'll pass on this occasion. 3.5 hours to sale opens.

Just logged on to book SYD - fingers crossed!!!

So has anyone booked this yet? Apparently there was a pre-sale opportunity for targeted Platinum One and Points Club Plus members that finished today’s pbly

I’m in!! Booked for SYD. Going with a couple of mates from here. Can’t wait ☺️
Once more I am super envious! Let’s hope I can wave at you from the back of the bus!

I think the Sydney (and now Melbourne) flights are sold out already cause it won't show it for me but the flight times give an interesting guide:

From Melbourne (1hr 5min flight):

From Brisbane (I guess it's a time zone issue so 1hr 45min? on the way down and 1hr 25min? on the way back):

Edit: I found the Sydney flight times in the timetable:
18 April 2021
QF1253 - SYD to ZZF - 8:30am to 11:00am (2hr 30mins)
QF1254 - ZZF to SYD - 5:15pm to 7:30pm (2hr 15mins)

I have always thought the name Launceston looks a bit like Lunchtime - so that would be quite appropriate for a day trip.

If it is, could QF have chosen a place closer to Melbourne than that? I guess Mildura and Canberra are a few miles closer. A day trip to HTI from SYD seems like not bad value .... but MEL-LST?

I think it's all sold out now. I'm getting "Thank you for your interest. You are not eligible for this offer" for all 3 flights.
I got that at first, try searching in an incognito tab or logging out of your frequent flyer account. I think MEL and SYD are sold out but Brisbane might still have some seats.

It was a website glitch- a memo went out to the call centre as people were freaking out.

No, they won’t be scheduled flights. As others have said, these are charter flights for the mystery trip only. After all, land transport, activities and lunch out will also be included.
