One time I was on a late arriving MH KUL to SIN making my connection to an EK SIN-MEL very dicey. SIN airport knew I was connecting and organised a buggy for me to get to the EK transfer desk whence I got an op-up to F. The EK gate was nearby. I probably would have missed the flight but for the buggy. However that was not a normal circumstance.

I did enjoy the flight - although the F lounge was the highllight of my day.
One last question (sorry to be a bother), but how long before departure can one check-in at MEL for QF9? Does it have to be 3 hrs before precisely? Or will they take people earlier?

I arrived about 4 hours prior and the F check in was open (other flights) but I had checked in before my first flight in SYD.
I only stopped by to grab an express path pass.
They had no problem with that but I don't know if they would have checked me in so early.

If you are travelling HLO and the F checkin is open you should be ok to check in earlier. If the F check in is not open you will have to trust to luck at the service desk. I have had mixed results there. If all else fails you *may* be able to check in at the dom J lounge.

I arrived exactly 3 hrs early, and when I checked in I asked them specifically if they would have checked me in had I arrived earlier. They said "no - the system would not allow them to accept luggage more than 3 hours prior to departure for that flight".

Lame.

Three hours exactly.
Are you making reference to the usage of "exactly" v "precisely"? Or just confirming the 3 hour rule?
In any case, I think that since the 3 hour rule is a measure of time, and that the "precision" of the time-keeping devices used for check-in are under Qantas' control, then in this instance "precise" is the correct word to use? My iphone might say "3.00" but QF's system might say "2.58"....

Now now, this isn't the grammar thread! :D

This is a known problem with MEL lacking storage space for luggage.
I happen to know that they are currently tendering for works for facilities to remedy this.
But for now it is out of QF's control.

Can anyone advice the hours the F desk is operating these days? Does it close after QF35 departs or do they stay open to assist WPs checking in for later flights?
