Interesting re no hot Breakfast on Qf29 in J and yet I just flew Qf30 in J (HKG-MEL) and there was a hot breakfast offered prior to arrival. As timings are similar it seems strange that they would offer on the way back but not on the way over?

PS I flew QF127 via SYD to get to HKG to avoid the QF29 night flight as I needed to work the next day. I flew up in Y+ and back in J and I would have to say I almost enjoyed Y+ more. On reflection I realise it was the service, the service on the way up was fantastic, on the way back very ordinary. Given that I think the Y+ food is pretty close to J it all comes down to the seat and for a day flight I didn't need the skybed. Just goes to show how much service makes a difference to the overall experience.

Cheers

Yep,I was on QF 513 on Thursday and my diabetic breakfast consisted of corn flakes with skim milk,a small packet of dried apricots,oj,and a small ginger and raspberry muffin.

N'oz
Still better than Bircher muesli ...

This is quite strange but I've been having weird cravings for the QF hot breakfast over the past week. I think perhaps I've been flying too much.

Contary to others I enjoyed my bircher on Sydney light yesterday. Guess I don't normal do breakfast so while someone else can do it for me I will enjoy. Tea eas also Very hot or a change.

The last couple of flights from KTA to PER I have been on (QF1905 departing at 4:15pm) dinner/snack has been a meat pie. Yuk. I even offered it to the man sitting next to me and he didn't want it either.
I'll have to think about taking the advice given above of travelling on a "dinner" flight time rather than a "snack" time.
Last night coming back from PHE was chicken korma which was not bad.

I quite like the cooked breakfasts but never eat the sausages. Years ago a flatmate of mine was a Laker Airways cabin crew member and I heard some stories about the sausages then and have never been able to face eating them since. She also had some bad experiences with the Laker omelettes but I have got over that!

Well, don't leave us in suspense!
Tell us the whole story

Well, I guess you had to be there .... but it was funny/awful at the time. My friend got omelette spilt down her rather attractive red crimpolene uniform dress (anybody else remember those?) and we could not get the green stain out with anything until we tried drain cleaner.
We found that a little disturbing. However, it might have been an undocumented feature of crimpolene rather than the omelette.
Like I said, you had to be there.:D

Qantas catering hit an all time low for me yesterday (Sunday). On a flight back from Brisbane, the "lunch" offered was a luke-warm meat pie, in its plastic wrapping, with a paper serviette. That was it. No choice, and not even a sample pack of tomato sauce was available. I'm not convinced that they weren't pies that were left over at the local footy match from the day before. I politely declined - and I think the crew were embarrassed to be serving them too.

I'm not expecting silver service, certainly not in economy, even with a "full service" airline such as Qantas. But this was poor.

That is OK as it appears to be horses for courses.

I would rather a day old meat pie that has not been reheated than any fresh curry....

I believe the curries (at least the veg ones) served by Qantas are not fresh at all. They're foil packed, ready to eat, "MTR" brand which sell for less than $4:00 per pack (4 times serving size on plane). Qantas certainly knows procurement.

Are you stirring the (curry) pot again JohnK :?:
Why would I stir the pot Bill?

I am serious. I do not like curry and my preference any day of the week is continental European foods that are not full of herbs and spices. It really is that simple....

Some one day old curries are better than fresh curries.

THey really need to serve curry pies though.....

it's a bit hit and miss, was hungry at 8 PM when I got my bags after a flight from ADL that had this catering:

Good grief! Why do they even bother, though the suppliers of all this overpackaged thin air are probably appreciative that they do.
