Nice new benefit for QF WP1 members, will come in handy when I'm in Sydney and have time in between meetings in the city

We’re delighted to announce that we've opened the Qantas MCA Lounge in Sydney for Platinum One members, their guests and MCA Ambassadors.*
Following the AUD$53 million redevelopment, the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia recently reopened and has been transformed into a major cultural centre for contemporary art and creative learning.
The Qantas MCA Lounge is a sophisticated loft-style space located on the ground floor facing Circular Quay and the Sydney Opera House and features artworks from the MCA Collection. Daily newspapers and MCA publications are available for you to browse and free wifi enables access to the internet and emails. Complimentary tea, coffee and soft drinks will be available throughout the day and you can dine al fresco on the deck serviced by the MCA Restaurant.[SUP]~[/SUP]
The lounge provides a CBD based space for Platinum One members and their guests to meet, work and relax overlooking Sydney Harbour.
So the next time you are in town, please drop by and relax in the Qantas MCA Lounge.
Kind regards,
The Platinum One Special Service Team

Seeing as the average P1 would spend more time in the air than on the ground, a lounge that's not at the airport seems a little odd. Though I'm sure it'll be used, it doesn't seem like a very good real benefit. Nice to see they're trying though!

Looks like a good tangible benefit for P1. Not sure if I will be able to make much use of it as I am not in Sydney much. But anyway good to see it.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Sounds like a good idea to me. Have already fired off an email enquiring as to plans for something similar in Melbourne... :)

I am looking right at MCA from across Circular Quay.
i think the architect for the redevelopment forgot about the Harbour view when he signed off on the redevelopment.
Great news for WP1s and it is something we can aspire to as we travel more.

Now where are the Melbourne and Singapore options?

:p:p

Perth is busier than Sydney in domestic travel so I guess Perth would be next seeing we have no J nor F lounges.

I have seen the space already prior to fit out. It is a rather small lounge but I think it is fantastic, I doubt it would be too cramped though with the acces requirements. Now to work towards WP1!

Tony I am just a 5 minute walk from there until Monday but alas I am a mere WP who requalified this year in 3 months.
Pick me to guest in so I know if an SC run would be worth it.
It is pretty cool outside but MCA lounge is beckoning........

I'm desperately trying to find a reason to be in the Sydney CBD.......but I can't find one.:(

Next week i'm staying in the suburbs, bur won't have time to get to the CBD. Looks like it will have to wait a while. :(

I really like the sound of this - not enough to make me switch - but i'm genuinely impressed on this one. Looking forward to a lounge review.

<nosey>

Will it open in time for those going to Boss' Quay lunch?

Is this an ATA lounge? ;)

Given that MCA Ambassadors can get in as well, why bother doing an SC run given that Ambassador membership starts at about $1500/year? :)

I do wonder if Young Ambassadors can get in (18-40 years old)... that's only about $500/year. I've been considering joining that anyway (before the lounge was announced), so if it's eligible then I think I'll certainly do it.

Ewing, I have it from a good source that Young Ambassadors do not have access. Only donors of $1500 and above.

Whilst this will be of no benefit to myself, this is a good initiative for Qantas.

I also note that the Ambassador program is tax deductible ;)

Yep, that's what I suspected. Thanks.

Also there is some small print with some further details

*The Qantas MCA Lounge is open to Platinum One members and one guest during normal museum hours (10am - 5pm 7 days a week). Guests must be accompanied by the member at all times. Children under the age of 18 years are to be accompanied by an adult. Platinum One members will need their Qantas Frequent Flyer Platinum One card to access the lounge. Access to the Qantas MCA Lounge by Platinum One members and their guests is subject to further terms and conditions, which may be varied from time to time without notice, as published on qantas.com
~Food and beverages ordered from the MCA Restaurant are at the member’s cost - opening late July 2012. Complimentary tea, coffee and soft drinks are available in the Lounge.

I actually think it is good that QF is "supporting" the arts.

FWIW I don't go to an art gallery to drink [too much]. So a free refreshment and a quiet place to sit down is a nice thing to offer members. Of course you can sit in the cafe at the gallery and purchase the same cup of tea, but it is far less "exclusive".

In dollar terms it will save you $3 - $4 per person per beverage for a tea bag, a dash of milk and some hot water. A revenue fare SIN-SYD-SIN in J is normally between $4000-$6000 SGD, so probably not really worth a mileage run to use this lounge. :p:p

I like that they are doing something, but as a WP1 who is in Sydney nearly every week... I don't know I would ever use this. Maybe to meet someone? Not sure.... Still trying to come up with uses
