Qantas major delays at LAX

QF 17 this evening is delayed 24hrs, apparently following delay of incoming flight from LAX
My son and wife and their daughter were to fly F. QF is offering Syd to Sfo then LAX in J. What else could Qantas be asked to do to get family across to LAX to avoid them losing a day for their short stay in the city?
No available seats on QF11?

What I assume was the incoming aircraft QF18, left LAX, turned around after an hour, dumped fuel and landed again.

The difficulty this time of year is that flights are full. And getting 3 seats in F tough.

I'd assume had their been sufficient seats on this morning's QF11 they would have been offered them. Other possible option would be via MEL on QF93. Other BNE and MEL flights are 787s without F.

Curious as to what is QANTAS policy on compensation for such extended delayed flights. Previously a $30 meal voucher was handed out for a 4 hour delayed flight from SYD.

I can't read anything much out of the FR24 trace. The descent started with the turn, but that makes sense from the distance out from LA anyway. The numbers are all normal for the weight. The various holds (obviously radar directed) would be to dump fuel.

They've just been booked on EK First, losing a day in process, with 3 hrs stop in DXB. That'll be quite an experience I guess. Fortunately they didn't have connecting flight out of LAX

Looks like Non-Home International Airport Departure Delays are bit more complicated like.. "For international travel you may have rights under the Warsaw or Montreal Convention. " May need a Lawyer.. Hopefully common sense prevails

Looks like VH-OQJ has taken over QF18.
VH-OQH obviously has had its issues sorted and has departed LAX as QF12 and due to arrive in SYD at 0835 this morning
