Not sure what the airport requirements are in ADL,
Thought since last week it was a Federal requirement to wear one whenever you are in an airport.
Mask use in SA is next to non existent so I can see why no one bothers at the airport either 😂

Mark usage in WA is non-existent too, but MrsDaver6 said everyone in the PER QP was wearing one on Thursday morning.

Canberra lounge earlier this week was very quiet. QP closed and just the J lounge used (plus the CL for those pax).

Pax to staff ratio in the J lounge was about 2:1 in the time we were there. Very attentive and friendly staff. Mostly new faces.

Visit at around 2pm had one hot dish of (bland) chicken curry and rice, as well as packaged sandwiches and a range of fruits and sweets. All served by the staff and taken to your seat if requested. Proactive table service offering wine top-up as well.

Surprisingly the bathrooms seemed to be less well-maintained than before. But overall the lounge experience was good.

General questions if I may folks, having been a Qantas FF/Club member since 1996, I have now been accepted for the status credit challenge - I am now booked along with my wife to fly from Brisbane to Adelaide. I understand that I can gain entry to the Qantas Club but my wife who hasn't qualified for the status credit challenge and is only a Bronze - she can't come in with me?? Any thoughts/suggestions as to how I might be able to get her into the lounge with me??

Cheers
Rono

PS - Can I still use those round Qantas baggage tags I got ages ago?

Given your Gold status and your wife is travelling on the same flight, she can access the Qantas Club in BNE as your guest.

Yes

Yes
AIRwin, that's what I thought but when I rang Qantas they told me no??? Anyway, thanks for your reply, I suppose we will find out tonight when we fly out.

Cheers

Hey - is there any word on when the DRW QP will be opening again?

I don't think this will be any time soon - the whole lounge pretty much needs to be rebuilt due to the mould problem.

Funny because there is a perfectly good Virgin lounge sitting next door. When I was up in Darwin last month the lights were on and all the furniture left untouched.

Would that be a suggestion for the Virgin motto? “The lights are on, but nobody’s home”. 😉

Mould is certainly an issue in the Top End particularly at this time of year, but I’d not heard that as the reason the DRW QP hadn’t reopened. Any further info?

I would estimate the ex-VA lounge in DRW is 1/3 - 1/2 the footprint of the QP, but agree it’d be perfectly adequate for the anticipated numbers for the foreseeable future. QF should seriously consider it; sure the patronage won’t be high on a raw numbers basis, but they are actively positioning themselves as the premium carrier and this is a gap in their offering. DRW is now the only state/territory capital without a reopened lounge (lockdowns aside) and the NT is right there in the middle of their own name.

During the national lockdown last year, when very few people were flying to/from the NT, Darwin Airport decided to save money by switching off the air conditioning in the part of the terminal housing the lounges for a few months. The Qantas Club, meanwhile, became so infested with mould (due to the climate in DRW) that it now needs to be basically gutted and rebuilt. The VA Lounge would have also been affected by this.

Big question is, who pays for this? If QF and DRW agreed to save money together, they should also split the costs now. They are being fixed/rebuilt right?!

(I haven't stayed long in the Top End but I do remember the hotel telling me to keep the aircon going at all times to prevent exactly this happening... you'd think they knew about this...)

Wow. just wow. Genuinely surprised both parties got themselves into this foreseeable situation just to save a few bucks short term. QF should be offering lounge-eligible members vouchers for Hectors bar or the Dome cafe instead until it’s rectified - but of course that would cost them $ too.

For some reason, the QF website (last updated 9 April) is listing OOL as closed... What did I miss?
