Qantas lounges reopening 1 July 2020

Sadly I think they would be considered too high a risk of person to person transmission.

Regrettably I think I have to agree. And AFAIK they're not taking temperatures to screen and reject pax either at the lounge or elsewhere, guess they've decided on balance it's not practical.

I’m presently in the Sydney lounge and obviously very quiet. Staff providing excellent service at entry. Staff are at the food counter on the passsenger side and hand over your requests. Food is a bit limited but they are doing table service bacon and egg rolls.

I’ve been asked several times would I like more coffee or food and bringing it over to me.

No news papers or magazines and staff continually cleaning. Chairs and stools spaced apart.

Overall very good.

Thanks for posting these. Agree it looks and sounds pretty good while we are where we are and with only a few flights. No buffet obviously limits choice and flexibility, but I much prefer table service in general and have often received it in both QF and VA lounges in the past which I have greatly appreciated.

Taking temperatures is basically a PR stunt with extremely limited value. But what it does do is make people feel more secure!

Visited Sydney J lounge today around 10am when they were serving breakfast. I chose yogurt from the buffet, got handed it by the server. Was told there were hot options on the other side only to find there weren't - not that I was hungry for hot options. Curiously I could only get up there by taking a lift and the capacity wasn't enforced.

My last trip in March (7th-9th) was to Singapore. Literally that was the only thing different that I noticed about everyday life there, it was at every office building and at Changi Airport - conveniently at the latter you could just walk through without stopping unless you showed up.

Other than having to sign a stat dec at my hotel that I hadn't been to China, Iran, Korea and Italy it was pretty much business as usual - only 4 or 5 people wearing masks all day, the CBD and Marina Bay Sands packed as usual and Changi airport busy.

It was a similar story when I crossed the border into Johor Bahru for a couple of hours. Of course at the time Singapore thought they had it under control then they had the outbreak leading to them shutting their borders.

Based on that experience I believe it may well be that temperature checks are useful if you are looking for infectious diseases generally like the common cold and the flu - wouldn't go so far as to say it's just a PR stunt. But the reason COVID-19 has spread so fast is asymptomatic so I do share your general sentiment that its not going to be the be all and end all to ensuring we're safe from it.

They have been checking temps on entry to some hospitals, while limited it is an indicator rather than a stunt.

They check your temp when you arrive into South Africa at customs, it's a indicator to check further.

Tamworth lounge last week - normally a self serve type arrangement now staffed by one at the door and one in the lounge serving.
No food or drink to be touched by guests from the serving area, you have to order everything through the staff member
She said she was incredibly bored - usually works in engineering checking parts after cleaning

whats rationale for not having the showers open/operating? showers are an integral part of the lounge value proposition ...

I want to gift someone a general lounge invite. Am I right in thinking that this allows for entry into the business lounge if the QC is closed? (Brisbane).

Thanks. The linking menu is unavailable to me (maybe because I already have lounge access). I would like to be sure prior to gifting something that could be useless....

Cost cutting which is totally unjustified with the amount of government money QF is receiving from JobKeeper.

I visited the BNE J lounge last week before it closed and this is what the food counter looks like. The two hot food options are displayed at the front. Ask for whatever you like and it will be plated up for you to collect at the far left of the counter.

I walked over to the Qantas Club and the only food offering there was the soup, ham & cheese sandwiches, potato salad and some sweets.
