Is it just me having a particularly bad hair day or is there something up with QF lounge WiFi and accessing Twitter ?

Today I've been in MEL J, ADE lounges and currently sitting in BNE J lounge and have not been able to access Twitter either from web browser or mobile app(s) when connected to QF Lounge WiFi. Yet as soon as I turn off WiFi and go back to 3G... bingo... we're off to the races.

Interestingly (strangely?) I also cannot access Google+ from mobile devices on QF WiFi... yet G+ is working happily on the browser I'm typing this from on QF WiFi. All other web/app activity has worked flawlessly in all three states.

I realise it's a small thing... but small things are what keeps my mind busy during +1hr delays... that and a steady supply of Bulmers bottles

Black-listed to stop people posting photos of the business class slop?

LOL... :) Literally as I read that the guy next to me sat down with a plate of what I assume to be some kind of curry with yellow rice... if it wasn't awkward, and he wasn't ho'ing into it.. I would snap a pic.. but not post to Twitter of course.

Still doesn't solve the riddle... ??? :(

In the past few weeks I have had problems on multiple days connecting to the MEL J Lounge Wifi on my smartphone, when in previous times I have had no problem on the same device. The T&Cs page does not even come up. That may be related?

Funny you should mention it. I didn't think anything of it at the time. WiFi working fine in the PER QP on last Thursday...but did have Twitter issues. And ironically it was to tweet about the bloke wearing thongs, shorts and a very ripped (not in the designer sense) shirt.

Was in PER QP on Monday and tweeted away without issue. Sometimes there's a general problem with the wi-fi in the lounges, but it's never been specific to one app or website in my experience. If the wi-fi's playing up, nothing works.

When the service was changed from Telstra to Optus they went from out of date business grade Cisco APs to semi current consumer Netgear ones, little wonder there will be some Wifi issues when they get overloaded, the issues with Twitter could be ISP specific.

I had WiFi issues in BNE J today as well. Nothing to do with twitter, just normal sites worked very slowly or didn't open at all. It was very frustrating and I couldn't get any work done.
I had too much spare time and too many extra drinks from the bar ;)

Boomy look up at the ceiling and you'll spot the best places to sit. The routers are hard to miss. I generally sit near the mac stations with good effect.

Have given up long long time ago using public wifi at Qantas. Have never found them reliable or fast enough for my needs. Also the security in these networks leaves a lot to be desired.

Speed vs security? Most ppl are lazy anyway. I'd run multiple proxies if I had a real issue. Also, some networks may exclude you for doing so, no win..

When I was in the J lounge in Sydney about 3 weeks ago I couldn't access Twitter. Could use everything else I wanted (at decent speeds), but just not Twitter. Very strange I thought.

Same here. For quite a few weeks prior to Christmas, smartphone would not connect in MEL, SYD J lounges or ADL Lounge - though the device recognised the network each and asked if I wanted to connect.

Not had any issues when switching to the laptop and running wirelessly from that.

I just put it down to my having stuffed-up a phone setting somewhere (though don't have any issues with any other stored networks).

Regards,

BD

I have VPN access on servers that are fast enough to not notice any real slow down, at least in the QP's.

It adds around 40-50msec to my sessions, but that's entirely acceptable for me.
