Qantas Lounge - Toasted sangas?

The lounge food is horrible and unhygienic. Quite a number of times when going to the lavatory I notice guys not washing their hands afterwards, then going to the food counter. I actually say something to them then.
Who are these guys? Staff or customers?

Just about everything to do with Qantas is going downhill. Travelling business the food is mostly cough. Economy I don't eat at all. The lounge food is horrible and unhygienic. Quite a number of times when going to the lavatory I notice guys not washing their hands afterwards, then going to the food counter. I actually say something to them then. Not impressed with Qantas at all, just wish there was some decent competition. The only thing that is still of value is the first class lounge at Sydney and Melbourne international.

How is half of your rant related to QF at all?

I agree this poor personal hygiene you've witnessed is disgusting, but how is it the fault of QF?

Based on my last two visits (SYD on a Friday evening and MEL on a Sunday evening), there were hot food available. I remember it was some sort of a vegetable stew with rice in MEL and a baked pasta in SYD.

The toastie machines were in popular demand in SYD and less so in MEL. A slight problem is that the smell of toasted sandwiches flittering in the QP.

For me, I now skip the hot food and go for the salads which are generally quite good.

The thing I can't work out is how much money they must spend on booze yet won't spend money on some decent hot food. Whenever hot food appears it seems to vanish in the blink of an eye. That must tell you something.

I was in the QP in SYD yesterday morning. The place was like a zoo & the buffet appeared like a feed lot with frenzied vultures preying on the limited food options.
The toasting machines were working overtime as the suited 'alpha males" were sizing each other up jostling for pole position.
After hearing the repetitious robotic voice of.... Hello Everyone.. every few minutes.. & the loud mouthed guy near me that was trying to sharing his miserable life with his unamused colleague..
I quickly found there was more solace in the bookstore downstairs. :D

I hate, hate, hate the toasters. Half the time they're reeking with the scabby leftovers from god knows when. I once put in a nicely made up sandwich, when I went to extract it had become victim to a previous users' festering gunk. (There was a half sandwich stuck to the top side of the toaster from the previous user - invisible because it's not usual to inspect both plates). After that I simply refuse to use them - anyone seen them ever being cleaned? Plus you get people coming up and shoving theirs in with yours ... and this is meant to be premium service? The only good thing I look forward to in QP nowadays are the Arnotts biscuits and coffee.

Agree with some others, the sandwich makers are poor, from my own experience people seem to queue to use them (which is what is no doubt reported to management as a success) but because there is little or no other offering. (which no doubt is omitted in the report to management)

I will start bringing my takeaway in from the shop outside.

Lounge management is declining.

Matt

Sometimes I don't mind a toasted sanga. But I do agree that at times the machine is in need of a good clean so I avoid it.
On the odd occasion I have used it, it seems to take forever to toast a sandwich.

Why can't they just put on a range of decent hot food?
Maybe somebody should open up a kebab shop in the lounge

Who are these guys? Staff or customers?

Customers. Of course its not Qantas' fault that this happens, however what is Qantas' fault is the quality of food of late. Personally I think its quite unacceptable. Eg business class to Perth a month ago, I was offered a gourmet hot dog. Are you kidding me? The cough they serve at the Sydney lounge of an afternoon is just that cough.

But it's gourmet!
