Qantas announced today 9 extra A320s for JQ for Domestic and shorthaul Int flying and the return of 4 767-300s to the Dom fleet as the new A330-200's are delivered for INT routes...these aircraft are more ideally suited than the A330-300s having to operate to Bom via DRW in one direction(part of the airbus comp package I presume).
Dixon mentioned it will maintain the groups 65% Domestic marketshare.
This along with 3 additional 717s announced previously which should free up 3 737s for the mainline dom fleet. The upshot overall with QF/JQ and already announced DJ expansion (767s mainly against DJ on the main trunks A320s on the leisure routes)all before Tiger has done much more than get media spin...looks like irrespective of oil prices consumers will be the winner for the next couple of years..interesting times ahead

Any ideas with the recently announced extra USA flights where the extra 744's will be comming from and what the effect on other services will be ?

Not really that old, QF has a few in storage remember and rather 'fresh' i would imagine ! they were purchased in the late 90's early 00's i think. That would make them less than 10 years old. (first delivery of a 717 was 98 i think)

Still i wonder if thats correct, i would have had my doubts they would re-use 717's unless they were desperate, after all they put them in storage until they could return them to the lease company.

Its QantasLink that is expanding with the 717's being operatied by National Jet Systems (NJS) not QF mainline.
That all makes sense.

QF needs something to put up against the various uses DJ could put an Embraer E-Jet to. :D

With a bit of luck those 767's coming off the int routes are the ones that do things like PER-HKG.

Presumable the new A332's will be used where the A333 does not have enough legs, and the A333's can replace some of the 767 routes.

Yes, and these new A332's will have the cabin floor reinforced so they can take SkyBeds (or equivalent); something the first batch of 332s could not.
