Qantas & Jetstar revealed as first airlines to fly from WSI

Some perspective:
Greater Western Sydney economic output is third behind Sydney CBD and Melbourne
Its population rivals Brisbane and is bigger than Adelaide, Canberra, Hobart and Darwin combined
Many business are moving out of the CBD to be closer to where its employees live.
 
Big difference between "generally" which I stated and "anyone" implying no one which you stated.
 
I know people talk about the analogy to New York, London, Tokyo as multiple airport cities But probably the best comparisons for WSI is between LAX and ONT. Yes both are in the Greater LA megapolis, but ONT, 60km inland from LA downtown, serves the Inland Empire, but not really central or western parts of LA (LGB, BUR and SNA also serve similar functions - but none of them have had international services). AA has a hub at LAX but still operates out of ONT, just like the announced QF services from WSI.

I have been to Avalon about a dozen times (and Tullamarine a bit more). Both offer a Skybus and from my memory both were relatively long treks (some might argue Avalon is a bit longer but it's a distinction without merit).

That's the spirit! And it's not as though QF doesn't operate short hops either. For instance BCI to LRE. Other airlines elsewhere also operate such short hops like Ottawa (YOW) to Montreal (YUL) or London (YXU) to Toronto (YYZ)
Ok, we have a new definition of the geographical extent of Sydney or maybe Australia?
Having travelled to every state/territory capital in Australia I think it's fair to say that we can take what we see in Sydney and apply it everywhere in Australia! 😂

20 mins from SCS to MEL (~20km)
45-90 mins SCS to AVV (~60km)

AVV is a solution looking for a problem. Except maybe the 250 odd ‘000 peeps in Geelong.

Depends on how large the facility is in comparison with Mascot.

You know what they say time flies (or at least I think they say that).

Australia is unique in that most infrastructure projects finish on time and under budget from the Sydney Harbour bridge to Northconnex.

I reckon QantasLink will operate connectors between Mascot and Western Sydney. This would also alleviate the issue of getting from Western City into the CBD.

Any WSI/SYD connection will be via rail , either light or heavy.
 
If a Melburnian could please explain to me what the difference between Melbourne Tullamarine and Melbourne Avalon airports I'd love to hear it. Both of them involve a lengthy bus ride to/from the CBD. Both of them feature substandard terminal design and both of them have JetStar as a main tenant. If anything Avalon has the upper hand in the sense that fares tend to be lower there than Tullamarine.

AVV Avalon is supposed/was supposed to be a cheaper option of an airport.
Neither QF or VA use it because they know its a pain in the behind to get to/from, but QF is happy to let the people who are happy to fly JQ go via AVV for some of their flights.

Here's an idea. Qantas runs connecting busses between the 2 airports, with a flight number, like they do in Europe (Germany, LH I think) to make the transfer between the 2 more 'seamless' (palatable) and to even keep clipping the ticket as you go.

QF123 ADL-WSI connects to QF8866 WSI-SYD (surface) connects to QF7 SYD-DFW.

Points and SCs (SC?) for the bus ride!

You might even book ADL-DFW with a (i) for the middle sector "Your journey from WSI to SYD will be in surface economy".
It should have been QF4X3 ADL - WSI, not QF123, that would denote an international flight.

Here is the info on MTOW fees landing and take off for AVV.
MEL Tullamarine probably has a listing too of its fees somewhere.
Just need to see the way that JQ is run, there are a lot of ways they are saving money that QF has to bear, ie, JQd does not have a J cabin, saving a lot, though they do earn less not having a J service, but then the also save by now having a J cabin.
Tulla T4 compared to T1, I see T1 as a more sedate option, than the food court zoo of T4, thus saving them money too, in the sense that you can bring all you want onto a JQd flight, Krispy Kreme anyone.
Since they compbined T3 and T4, that food court is like a Karen & Ken zone.
