I was wondering if the damage will be covered by insurance,
the nose contains all the sensory part of the avionics system.
the "Stuff" in the nose is worth at least millions.....

it seems that after the collision they immediately removed the whole
module.....

Ahaha what a big stuff up by the guy towing the plane  Would have loved to see his/her face after he heard this big crash

And the "Oh <expletive deleted>" closely following the facial expression.

Somthing like me crashing my own 2 cars together in my own garage attempting to make room to get past one with a bin or BBQ or something !! :( the most amazing painful feeling... but you know cough happens sometimes.

PPRune rumors are indicating that the forward pressure bulkhead behind the radome on one of the 744's was punctured.

Oops.

That goes from being an expensive job to being a big expensive job.

I suppose I should read PPrune more often but there is soooo much dribble there.......

Why has this made a change to the aircraft used Today

IE the change to the A380 being used ?

According to the story, One plane was the ex Manila one,
The other aircraft was in for "heavy maintenance"

So i would not have expected either of these aircraft ( before the accident happened) to be used in the next couple of days anyhow ??

Have i missed something here ?

Several options here.

  1. One (or both) of these aircraft may have been due back on line in the next few days and now obviously won't.
  2. This will effect the ongoing maintenance schedule so the maintenance stagger will need to be adjusted

My guess is "Heavy Maintenance" one the aircraft was nearly complete and it was scheduled to operate QF93 to LAX today.

and with dire effects on your insurance preium. I wonder if QF's insurers are re-evaluating their premium?

Perhaps the other one had just completed its maintenance and was being towed out 0of the hanger ready to depart AVV to re-enter normal service??? Just one possible explanation.

Well in QF's case yes, in my i was lucky it was just a couple of scratches on both and as i used to import cars i knew a painter why took care of it for a few hundred dollars. Still i felt like a complete idiot and just wanted to cry at the ime, not because of the scratches but because i did it and it was 100% my fault and a silly thing to do.

I assume that Qantas will now fit Roo Bars to all their 747's?

Ha ha, with integrated parking sensors all designed by Marc Newson to reflect the colours of Australia etc etc

I guess they'll need to be reractable ...

Here's some B&W copies of a couple of Fiona Hamilton images published in today's paper:

Looks like they hit reasonably hard, then again a tug attempting to stop a 200,000 kg 747 (assuming its empty) wont exactly stop like a sports car.
