First time in Qantas J for a while.

Emirates J - we order the Kids meal to get the kids 'gift bag', but our kids eat from the standard menu.

What are the kids meals like on Qantas J? If we order a standard meal, will we still get the kids gift packs?

Depends on the route... mine are requested kids meals but on manage my booking says 3 of the 4 legs child meals aren't available

Domestic meals are a single tray with multiple items - usually a water / juice, ribbon sandwiches, fruit snack packs or a piece of fruit, something like a muesli bar, and usually a chocolate item.

International is similar to above, with an additional hot course e.g. lasagne, chicken schnitzel, or sausages / eggs for breakfast.

Very large portions to be honest - neither my 6 nor 9 yo have ever come close to finishing them, but they certainly enjoy them despite both being fairly fussy.

thanks - my kids arent fans of chicken nuggets or things like that - hence preference to have a normal meal, but not sure if it will impact the kids packs or not - but... it seems like a good range taht they should like anyway.

I have one fussy eater too. I normally order something from meal select for myself if international, that I think my boy will like, and order a kids meal too for him. If they turn their nose up at the kids meal then they can swap with me from what I ordered. Kids meals aren't bad for mains, and they normally have been getting pasta's, which is great as i love pasta and my fussy eater doesn't. So we basically do a swap. Also due to better half being WP and having priority pass we always try and fill the kids up on food before getting on the plane, plus take something on board if they completely turn their noses up at what they are given. Just make sure you remember to dispose of it before landing/on entry in another country due to quarantine!

The kids meals seem to have plenty of options, and I think they are done like that for fussy(ish) eaters, and not designed with the intent that the child will eat everything. Most J flights my daughter's either had something like chicken nuggets or a lasagne/pasta dish, a small plate of ham, bread roll, some dessert, a muesli bar and a popper. My daughter tends to only eat the bread roll lately … not sure if she fills up in the lounge, genuinely isn't hungry, or goes a bit into fasting mode rather than being hungry.
Or maybe it's just the IFE distracting her! :p
