Please don't (in a sycophantic manner) apologise on my behalf - I enjoy the varying viewpoints on this thread that are either balanced or otherwise, and appreciate the commentary and dialogue.

The behaviour here at times, specially towards Airline representatives disgusts and deeply offends me to no end. The commentary and sense of entitlement goes well beyond the simple expression of varying viewpoints. And yet these are the same people wondering why these corporate representatives who are trying to inform and engage aren't as active here as they might like.

If you want the community to be taken seriously and have more corporate representative engage and participate to deliver better outcomes for frequent flyers - tone it down and bite your lip before posting. The quicker some of you get this, the better chance this community has of influencing positive outcomes for all.

So with all due deference, you can take your meritless assertions of sycophantic apology and place them somewhere very uncomfortable. (Mallrats fans will get the reference)

I meant #52 was the first winge I saw. If it was #39, then that validates my comments about how soon it would be even more.
 
So what happens if I book a Super Saver fare for travel after 07 Jul? Does it become a Flexi Saver?
 
I can't speak for Red Roo, but I've sure switched you off. You join an exclusive and small list for me, those whose posts are automatically ignored by me on AFF from this point forward. I was going to consider taking bets on how long it would take someone to moan about these improvements and make an entitlement argument, but I would have never have guessed anything as low as post #53.

Who appointed you to decide what AFF members can and can not say on this forum? With respect, pull your head out of where the sun doesn't shine and trying to stop those with a gripe, they believe as genuine, from expressing their opinion. That right of open speech cost a lot of people their lives and / or freedom. I'm sure if a AFF members gets too far out of line, the forum moderators will attend to the issue.

New Domestic Fares and Frequent Flyer Enhancements

To follow-up on enhancements to the Qantas Frequent Flyer program we announced in May, here's even more great news. From 7 July 2011, members can request a Flight Upgrade Award to Business on any Qantas Domestic Australian Economy flight with a QF flight number using points* - and that now includes Domestic Red e-Deals. See below for more details.
The new Australian Domestic fare structure for travel within Australia will provide:
Simplicity - offering a more user-friendly and easy to understand range of Domestic Economy class fares, grouped into three fare families;
Flexibility - offering more flexibility in selected Economy and Business class fare rules; and
Enhancements to Qantas Frequent Flyer benefits including the ability to use points to upgrade to Business Class on Qantas Domestic Australian Economy fares~ and improved Status credit# earn on some fares.
New Domestic Fare Families
The new fare structure removes the Super Saver fare family to simplify the Economy fare families from four to three. The new Qantas Domestic fare families will be:
Red e-Deal - our lowest year-round fares offering the best value for money
Flexi Saver - flexible fares offering a greater range of choice
Fully Flexible - offers complete flexibility with full refundability to provide the most choice for travel
Business - our full premium fare, which provides additional baggage allowances, Neil Perry designed menus, Business class Frequent Flyer Cabin Bonus points and access to dedicated Business lounges in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Canberra Domestic terminals
And, for travel from 7 July 2011, Domestic Flight Upgrades Awards* will now be available to request from:
Discount Economy (Red e-Deal fares) to Business,
Economy (Flexi Saver and Fully Flexible fares) to Business
So for you, these changes to the Australian Domestic fare structure mean:
earning more Status credits on some fares;
all Domestic Qantas Any Seat Awards are now upgradeable too
for some fares on Domestic Economy Qantas flights, the number of points required for a Flight
Upgrade Award have been reduced; and
Domestic Red e-Deals are now upgradeable with points.
Requesting a Domestic Flight Upgrade Award more than 24 hours in advance
To request a Domestic Flight Upgrade Award* using your points, you need to have an eligible confirmed Qantas Domestic ticket, which may be a Qantas & Jetstar Any Seat Award, on a Qantas operated service with a QF flight number. Flight upgrades are not available for Qantas & Partner Classic Awards. Your upgrade is subject to availability at time of request and may be requested between 353 days and 24 hours in advance.
To request an upgrade using your points, simply visit qantas.com and log in to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account.
By clicking on 'View Your Bookings' you'll receive a list of all your upcoming flights and for your desired booking you can then click on the 'Upgrade' button.
Flight Upgrade Awards are at all times subject to capacity controls and availability is limited.
Requesting a Domestic On Departure upgrade at the Airport
On Departure Flight Upgrades^ may be requested by Platinum, Gold and Qantas Club members for Domestic Qantas flights (with a QF flight number) at Domestic Qantas Club Lounges and Check-in Kiosks.
At the Qantas Club
If you are a Platinum or Gold Qantas Frequent Flyer, or a Qantas Club Member and you are booked for travel on an eligible Qantas operated and marketed flight (with a QF on your ticket) you may use your Frequent Flyer points to upgrade one class on Domestic flights within Australia (where a seat is available) from Discount Economy to Business, or from Economy to Business.
Domestic On Departure Upgrades can be arranged for you and an eligible family member 'on departure' at Domestic Australian Qantas Club lounges subject to these conditions:
You and your eligible family member(s) must have paid and ticketed Discount Economy or Economy airfares.
Requests can be made at Domestic Australian Qantas Club lounges up to a maximum of three hours, but no less than 20 minutes, before flight departure (allow a minimum of 40 minutes for Domestic departures from international terminals).
Upgrades are only offered on Australian Domestic Qantas flights (QF400 and above) as well as Domestic legs of Qantas International flights (QF1-399).
On Departure Upgrades are at all times subject to seat and catering availability.
Using Check-in Kiosks
Check in Kiosks at selected Qantas Domestic terminals allow Platinum and Gold Frequent Flyers and Qantas Club members to use Frequent Flyer points for Domestic On Departure upgrades using points, except when travelling on an X class fare booked as part of a Qantas Any Seat Award. These are only available for single traveller bookings and are subject to availability and fare conditions. Find out more.
You must be a member of the Qantas Frequent Flyer program to redeem points for Flight Upgrade Awards. A membership fee may apply. Membership and points are subject to the terms and conditions of the Qantas Frequent Flyer program available at www.qantas.com/terms

You move up to the next membership level (Silver, Gold or Platinum) by earning Status credits for flying on Qantas and selected partner airlines (note minimum four eligible flight criteria also applies). Reading the QF website with the updated changes and it's stating Business and Full Flex tickets can now have a wait-list?

It's great to see what some proactive competition from Virgin has produced. I don't think these enhancements would have occurred without the VA upgrades and the soon to be announced changes to Velocity.
And the winner is....the AFF.

Completely agree - that's why competition in our skies is so important and we need to embrace more than one airline flying in Oz.

Totally intrigued about ignored posts... anyway to find out who is ignoring you? .... hello?.... is there anyone reading this? :mrgreen:
 
This means red e deals will be totally upgradable from the 7th July!

Not bad trying to seduce frequent flyers! Still will be unable to book upgrades Perth Melb and vice versa
 
Also never thought name changes were allowed on any QF fare. This has seemed to have changed?

I had the same question;

Looking at the website link provided by post #42 the FAQ PDF states the fare conditions will remain the same unless you change the ticket post 7 JUL but frequent flyer changes (disc / full economy + upgrades) will be effective from travel on the 7 JUL onwards.
 
Refreshingly to see some really positive points here, aside from the extra SC earn, I assume this also means that less points will be required to upgrade the formerly-known-as-super-saver (L,M,V) fares which required (for MEL-SYD) 8,000 pts and now will only require 5,000 pts.

If I dare be a little negative, it is evident that the change to allowing all fares to be upgraded is indeed a response to competition and for those who have been around a while (and can remember) this (upgrading from all fare levels) is not new, it's giving back the upgrade policy that was taken away 6 years ago ... I think further improvement would be to allow this to be reinstated on international fares as well.
 
Upgrades aren't first come first served as already covered. They are based on recognition of loyalty as already stated. OW alliance members as usual would be treated at the same level as those who are members of QF on comparative OW status. Your point is moot.

Domestically this isn't entirely true. After booking, you can request upgrades online, and that is a first come first serve thing. As for On Departure Upgrades, perhaps they follow the pattern, but from I can see in the T&C's, the preference for status levels to influence priority is an international thing (being in 16.3.5).

Regrettably, steering OT again for a moment. Those actually interested in the changes would do well to skip to the next post.

Firstly - I have not now, nor have I ever apologised for QF.

As it can be shown by my consistent and reasoned viewpoint, I'm always been as big a critic of airline and hotel business of all stripes as the next guy. The key difference is that I have criticism I present it in an appropriate manner (albeit it sometimes I do waver close to a line where some Mod's might not be comfortable going).

In short, the premise of your comment is baseless and doesn't hold up to any measure of scrutiny.

As I stated earlier and it seems needs to be repeated for those who've forgotten, ignored or misunderstood the basic principals of business and economics - QF like any other airline is a business and they can do what they like, in a way that meets their corporate objectives. If you don't like the changes or how they or any other airline operates, you have the choice to take your business elsewhere (it's oft referred to as voting with your feet).

As for MelUser, his views don't hold up under the most basic scrutiny. He deserved to be called on both his points and the way in which his post was written. I restate my view that it has become apparent to even blind Freddy that there increasing number of members here who's attitudes and communications towards corporate representatives of all stripes leaves much to be desired.

I remain unchanged in my earlier expressed view that this community cannot and will not be taken seriously, and these corporate representatives are unlikely to be permitted engagement outside of current levels, unless the attitudes and postures of some is more befitting the medium and the people.

I have not now nor have or will I post anything on AFF or any other site that I'm not comfortable having associated with my name and identity in the real world. I would suggest there are some here who would delete selected posts if they were to reflect and asked themselves if they'd be comfortable with the same.

And PS: I can say all of this because of the wisdom gained by hard-learned experience. I've made some of these mistakes, both here on AFF and also in my professional life - and learned from them.

Aren't domestic upgrades first come first served as they are confirmed at time of request?

Make up your own mind if you think it is a positive change to allow anyone, with any fare class, access to upgrade/award seats.
