Qantas
Platinum
We are on QF1 on Monday night, Singapore to London, but can’t see any seats selected for us.

We rang the Qantas platinum customer service number, answered immediately and were told “airport has control” and he wasn’t able to select any either. At this stage he said one of us is stuck in the middle seat with the other in aisle, although we can’t even see that. We would prefer any two aisles but the selection won’t hold.

We’ve applied for an upgrade on points but not at all hopeful given how full it is.

The best the Qantas guy could do was tell us to try at airport which feels a bit late. Does anyone know how early you can check in for that flight?

Which cabin upgrade did you request? There’s some pairs in PE. J is pretty full but still some. Y is Swiss cheese but a couple of bulkhead pairs currently blocked (probably bassinet?).

Online chicken is available from 24 hours. I’d jump on as soon as you can from that time,
Chicken! Yum🤣 will try that at midnight tomorrow.
Did you select seats on booking?
yes we did, I recall that as the new TA we used told us we should do it rather than her, so yes we did.

We requested business upgrade, and said PE otherwise.

Keep checking over the weekend. Sometimes you see some seats block and unblock plus others who’ve requested upgrades get spirited away to free up seats.

Obviously, if you get that text message that the upgrade has come through - pounce immediately on available seats!

What’s the bit about airport has control? Customer service guy said he couldn’t allocate us seats either.

We tried the two aisles in economy, separated but we are ok with that, just can’t get it to hold then neither could the helpline guy.
I can’t see any available aisle pairs in the seat map I posted earlier. Nor a pair in the middle (aisle and middle) - which is probably next best for two together.

If you put a Y->Y+ upgrade request you might be lucky and snag 31J/K.

Thanks. We are ok with separate aisle if we have to sit far away! Fingers crossed we get the happy text!

When a flight is under airport control it is just that - but this is usually within the chicken.. I mean check in window (so unsure why it would be so early?). Anyway that would mean agents can't make changes as it's then for airport staff to be able to make changes, if possible.

It’s possible the available seats for advanced selection based on status (bronze, silver, gold, platinum) have been exhausted. This usually returns a message that seat selection is not possible.

The agent probably didn’t understand this and just made up that the flight is under airport control. Which could be right in some circumstances, just not in this case.

Will scream if we have a middle seat but let’s hope they are kind at the airport. I wonder how early we can check in at Changi.

Meantime, Singapore is still a terrific stopover even though walking all day in humidity exhausts me!

The early checkin (bagdrop) in the Jewel opens at 1pm. There’s self service kiosks and bag drop. It’s a shared arrangement - so probably won’t offer better solution for seating than OLCI.

It’s a bit of a pain for you if OLCI might not open until around midnight but those flying through from SYD will have checkin available from this arvo.

That’s probably what the real issue is. Keeping sufficient seats free that through PAX have the same seat on both legs.

Anyway, as a WP the QF F lounge opens around 2:30pm. You’d hope the desk staff there can be of assistance.

Oh you’re right there. Will check in at midnight tonight then go to airport reasonably early and hope the staff can help. Don’t want to waste our last day in Singapore, but 14 hours in middle seat isn’t appealing. Thanks a lot for this info.
