Looks like the ICCT forgot that all transpacific flights are not the same distance and so you can't compare NRT-LAX to MEL-LAX. The only valid comparison would be with VA (since UA, DL and AA have many transpacific flights to Asia).

Qantas were always going to be "worst" with their DFW flights included.

Its based on per PAX Kilometer.

Maybe Hainen sardine their cabins more?

A fairer comparison would be to look at like for like.

e.g. SYD/MEL/BNE to/from SFO/LAX.
 
Also more four engined 744 and A380 which use more fuel compared to single double engined aircraft.

Not sure I'd want to fly TransPac in a single engine aircraft :eek: ... but the 4-holer fuel burn was my first thought over the more fuel-efficient twins - especially the 787s/350s.
