Qantas Green frequent flyer tier

I had assumed that PC was intended to persuade people to start churning - to change their behaviour. There’s little benefit to Qantas to reward people for what they would have done anyway.
Not specifically. It's intended to reward those who don't necessarily fly a lot, but still earn a lot on the ground (there are lot's of ways to do that and some peeps generating hundreds of thousands each years) - so why not recognise them and get them to keep doing what they're doing)?

Staying OT: PC at 150k (with only 20k from flying) is still a lot of points earning for the average punter. Another 200K to get PC+ at 350k is a stretch goal for most but yep, changing behaviors and booking a lot of QF Hotels, QF Wine etc can move you along.

I'm guessing they did some data analysis and saw that only Tas and SA holiday home owners were biting.

I've done a green hotel stay in the past; but there are far too few green properties to choose from right now and none internationally even though the chains they include for some properties have other eco properties elsewhere.

I have a bunch of stuff I need to dispose of so I might do the recycling thing next FF Year and see if its worth recouping Green Tier. I wont need those 50SCs next year but possibly the yar after.
In my own defence, I have always done the offset in good faith- 3 bedroom NT home with 1 car (which is what I have). You could probably debate whether I should have offset my work house (another 3 bedrooms) to be fully eco but, certainly my “holiday home” was not being offset. Maybe they could continue to offer it for places that don’t have the recycling option, which seems to be only available in nsw?

The work experience kids have definitely done these changes. The duplicate wine link has been removed but now the the link to book eco/green hotel stays takes you to the home page and not the index of hotels.

Not sure if this will last until I need to buy to re-qualify after Aug 30th, but I put the 3 relevant marketplace items in my cart after you folks started talking about things looking 'off' with the usual options. They remain in there for now:

Though it should indicate Green n Tier now expires 31 July 2025.

For the record, i burned points for the offset, for WA property.
This also means that the option to redeem rewards for a 3 tonne offset is also gone, points or SCs only as reward options (the Green Tier page also appears to have been updated to reflect this).

It also seems wording about buying offsets for flights has been updated to be a "portion" of your flight emissions. Not sure I've seen that language before...

Good pickup on both counts 🤔

Wonder why the word offset is being cancelled.

Also, the climate positive delivery I bought yesterday resulted in a tick today.

Just need to decide now whether to do the last tick (donation) and claim the 50 this year for lifetime, or risk waiting until next year (October onwards) when I really need them, just incase they change the rules further.

I suspect someone (individual, greenie org, competitor) may have initiated legal action to question the veracity of the offset claims made based on one size fits all. The carbon emissions of any flight are affected by load and aircraft type not just route and the home offset by individual household energy consumption.

Settlement or risk aversion may have lead to these changes being made.

If so hopefully they will look for more options to add over time, rather than scrap this relatively cheap SC earning opportunity.

Ugh. As a non metro based QFF I could at least achieve green tier fairly reasonably each year, but this change is making it impossible this year. RecycleSmart pretty much only available in Sydney, and some parts of Newcastle.
