Hi guys,

Was hoping someone could clarify this for me as I'm not sure.

I am a Qantas Gold/Oneworld Sapphire member, and I'm planning to fly with 6 friends who are not frequent flyers, from London Heathrow to Reykjavik with British Airways on an "Economy Plus" ticket as we will have baggage to check in.

From the British Airways website here: , it says: for "Silver/oneworld Sapphire" members:
A checked baggage allowance of two bags when travelling in economy, For everyone in your booking, except on hand baggage only (Basic) fares*
A weight allowance of 32kg (70lb) per checked bag"

Does this mean baggage allowance is increased from the standard 1x23kg luggage, to 2x 32kg luggage for each of us if i purchase our tickets together in one booking?

It seems like too good of a deal, so I'd rather ask the community. It's my first time flying BA.

Thanks!!

Extra baggage allowance states

On international or domestic itineraries using the baggage allowance "piece" system - one additional bag*, weighing up to 23 kgs, up to a maximum of two pieces

Thanks for the response, I think it should be 2 x 32kg luggage. But it also says "For everyone in your booking", this part is what I'm wanting to confirm if anyone knows.

BA provide a greater benefit than one world.

It 2x32kg per PAX on BA international flights with the piece sysyem for sapphire.

Having been in a very similar position twice previously when I was Gold flying BA with a decent amount of baggage (but within the stated limit) the staff knowledge of what was allowed was pretty ordinary. The first time, I politely stood firm until a queue developed and the agent gave up and accepted it, the second time flying LHR-IAD (BA), then JFK-LAX-SYD-MEL (QF) on an award ticket as Silver/Ruby, I was entitled to my QF allowances as it was the longest leg in the journey. Took the printed page to get it through though as the agent didn't want to know.

It's not "the longest leg" in the journey. It's the allowance for the MSC being that of the first segment between IATA areas - in your case LHR-IAD. So BA's Ruby allowance for LHR-IAD should have been the allowance.

¹ although it is common the MSC is also the longest segctor.

Yes it is for everyone in your booking. BA are generous in that regard.

Did not realise that that everyone now gets the 32kg (ie waiver of heavy bag fee) per bag allowance (but I have not flown BA as a Silver before). It used to be only for cardholder - seems they have updated the text.

And your carryon can be 23kg as well! Would be nice if QF picked up they one.

Sure - and how many passengers could lift 23kg above their head, and how many would have to leave it at the door as the lockers filled up?

Ah thank you for this so P1 flying from TXL to LHR can take 32 KG x2 ie two bags and whatever I take on board.
