When redeeming a Qantas Gift Voucher, do they use the date you purchased the voucher as the booking date?

I'm being told this by customer service as the reason I didn't get some bonus status credits for a flight I booked within the dates of a bonus status credits offer.

Unfortunately yes, the back-end systems will see the voucher purchase date as the booking date and so time-specific promotions generally won't be applied automatically for voucher redemptions (unless you happened to buy the voucher during the promo period as well).

An email to [email protected] usually gets it fixed pretty quickly, but it would be nice if it wasn't necessary.

Thanks opusman. Unfortunately, its CSA at frequent flyer who is telling me this information.

The CSA is wrong. This issue has been dealt with here before. Ask them to review their decision and let us know the outcome.

Yes, they (the comupter) use the date of voucher purchase. But you should just let them know that you actually booked the flight at a different date. they can check when the actual flights were booked. The one time I had an issue like this the frequent flyer agent confirmed 1) that the voucher was not from a cancelled booking, and 2) that actual flights were first added to the voucher reference on a date in the promo period. I also made the point that I made a choice to book those flights because of the promo offer and the gift voucher is basically just another payment method.

They can actually see the date you made the booking. Argue your case. Surprised if you don't get the credit.

Sounds like one of the silly problems that's too hard or expensive to fix properly system wise relative to the complaints received.

Matt

Finally got it sorted by a supervisor (who apologised for the inconvenience) but I had to email again as the CSA was adamant she was right.

I see that qantas gift vouchers now expire after 3 years if purchased after 31 March 2018.
Prior ones only last 12 months.
Can someone enlighten me -and referring to vouchers purchased pre 31 March 2018 , does the 12 month expiry mean
that a flight could be booked within that 12 month period and flights actually flown beyond those 12 months ( within limits)
or
does the booking and flying have to take place within 12 months of the date of purchase of the voucher?

You can make the booking up to the expiry date of the voucher.

The booking can be for any flight available to be booked, which is up to ~353 days ahead.

Maybe we should just say that as a community we understand that previously existing loopholes have been closed. 😇
