Sully, I agree.

On QF - I cannot STAND VB, and will drink Tooheys/Fosters at a pinch in QF coach. Give me a West End. On the other hand, the QF flights over from FRA used to have Karlsberg Ur Pils. Even when I am in J class, I find that the range of beer/spirits only goes up to include JW Black, Baileys etc. There's no crownies.

British Lounges (BA) have Stella, Newky Brown Oh yes.

Icemann, you haven't been keeping up with the beer threads on FlyerTalk. Crown is just re-packed VB, real men drink Boags.

When Shillard International Airlines takes off (I can call it SIA, because I will bury those monkeys), we will only serve Boags Premium and Boags light. All other beers will be verbotten.

I can't believe that shillard is lending himself to the sia acronym!

I agree with you as to the Boags, although a Hahn Premium is a worthy substitute.

Lindsay - admin is a bit of a beer fanatic himself and is also a home brewer. Makes a mean Indian Pale Ale ....

While I am not in the industry my interest in the amber fluid had led me to find out a fair bit of information on the subject. I have it on good authority that the recipe used for Crown Lager is the same as that for Fosters. While conditions are generally subject to a great deal of control in the macro breweries there are some subtle variations in the way that each batch is produced, based on the yeast strain used and the extraction rates from the grain. A good batch means Crown and an average one is Fosters. VB actually has a higher hopping ratio giving you the 'bitter' in Vitamin B.

Ahhhh, the amber or black beer is a delight.
Has anybody tasted a 'Blonde Mac' or 'Black Mac' on tap out of Nelson in NZ? It can be had at a B & B called the 'Honest Lawyer'.
The only thing is... you have to fly NZ Link to get there. I suppose you can always drive from CHC though.

You don't have to go to Nelson to try Macs beers as they can be found in a number of pubs in Auckland. Recommendations for Auckland also are Galbraiths in Mt Eden (a healthy and thirst promoting walk of about 15 minutes from the Sheraton) and Shakespeares in Albert St. Both pubs have their own beers on tap and the latter has a great idea where you can buy a sampler of all 8 beers in their range in 150ml glasses. Think of it as slightly more than a stein in Munich!

In Galbraiths you can get a number of very good English style ales. One is called Bitter and Twisted so you can argue that you are what you drink.

Auckland also has a good Belgian beer cafe in Vulcan Lane where you can get the delightful but deadly brews of up to 9% alcohol. In the words of the famous Greek historian Homer............mmmm beer.
