Hi all, been a member for a while but casual peruser only - finally need some advice from experienced heads.
Have a QF flight credit for around $600 expiring early Jun 19 - no upcoming necessary travel or leave to utilise it. Any tricks on how to recoup this “cash”?
Is booking a fully flexible fare then cancelling for potential full refund an option? Any advise appreciated. Cheers

Welcome to posting on AFF. The terms of the travel credit would have been advised at the time of the crediting - I doubt if the 'work around' you propose would work.

I suspected as much, thanks for the replies Pu Koh and Rooflyer.
In mean time previous I noticed threads in 2015 indicated same - too clever these airlines ;-)
Cheers

The original ticket condition carries over to any fully flexible fare you may wish to purchase. That is why the 6 digit booking reference does not change

If a family member or friend has need for domestic travel you could perhaps use your credit to book a flight for them, as ID is rarely checked on domestic flights. Maybe use it to buy a business class flight for your Mum for a weekend away for Mothers day?

Excellent suggestion Lynda2475. Thanks

Though technically you can only use it for the person named unless name changes are permitted.

Yes but the point is because the airline does not check ID, you could “get away with it” . Against the rules and so ticket might be cancelled if the airline found out
Yes, my reply was in response to suggestions that the OP book a ticket for someone else to use. I wouldn't risk trying to 'get away with it'. The OP may not have been aware of the risk.

You could always call and ask if you can ticket into a different name. Doesn't cost anything to ask. Maybe there is some kindness in the world for Mother's Day.

I think the No Name Change rule is to prevent scalpers from buying up the low cost fares then reselling them later.

Similar sort of query and hoping someone more knowledgeable than me can clarify......bought a $50 voucher in March 2017 which was clearly due to expire in March 2018. No issue there. Booked a flight in February 2018 for late June 2018 using voucher but then had to cancel which was done in early June 2018. Voucher was reissued for fare less charges - voucher expiry date stated as being March 2018 which had already passed (reissued in June 2018) but I didn't really look at the details. I certainly called to cancel and nothing was said about validity etc. Voucher isn't in the system so seems it expired in March 2018 but flight was cancelled after that and credit reapplied in June 2018....What happened????

The Gift voucher you purchased is identified by a 6 letter code : ABCDEF (also called the booking reference)

When you redeemed the Gift voucher for a ticket, the ticket retains the same 6 letter code. Think of the voucher as a Shell booking without any flights in it. By redeeming it you are effectively inserting a flight into the booking - and paying the balance owing. Once this occurs the Gift Voucher no longer exists as a voucher.

You say that you then cancelled the ticket and you say the airline then gave you a Credit Voucher (value = ticket value less cancellation charges)

What they have done is take the flights out of the booking and leave you with the “Shell” - in this case it is a Credit Voucher but with a new Expiry date.

What is the Credit Voucher booking reference - should be the same as ticket.

Thank you. The credit voucher that ‘reissued’ in June 2018 has the same reference as the original voucher that was purchased in March 17 and, the booking made in February 18 ( while voucher was current) had the same reference. So original voucher, with reference ‘AVC111’ for example, became a flight booking with same reference and when booking was cancelled in June 18 ( after apparent expiry date of Voucher AVC111) I was ‘reissued’ Voucher AVC111. Can’t find any trace of it ( thankfully wasn’t a lot of money) but curious if voucher should still be current or my money should be somewhere I can access...!

Not sure why you say you can’t find it.

Have you searched your email using the 6 letter booking reference?

Alternatively search Qantas Manage Booking and enter the booking reference and last name or ring QF - was the Credit Voucher actually issued?

I have a slightly different problem. I have a voucher that I want to use but it will not let me take advantage of "Sale" flights - even though it would still be greater than the original flight cost. I can't find any reference to this restriction in the T&Cs. I have a "callback" with Qantas, supposedly 35 minutes now just under two hours (no surprises there).

At this stage, it looks like I'll just have to pay the extra.

Any idea's would be greatly appreciated.
