I'm hoping that someone in a similar situation might be able to provide some clarity on flight credit/voucher usage on partner/OneWorld airlines. I would reach out to the Qantas call center however I don't have a spare 3 hours in my day to remain on hold for an answer, hence my reach out to AFF forum users. I currently have about $1500 in Qantas Flight Credit (split across two vouchers) from cancelled flights last year. My plan was to use the credit over the 2020 Christmas/New Years break however the knee jerk border closures resulted in those flights being cancelled and the vouchers effectively being re-issued. I've since taken up a new job in the USA and have no intention of returning to Aus this year. Whilst the Qantas website says that flight credit can be used outside of the country of booking, it doesn't specify whether or not this has to be on QF metal. I'm obviously hoping to use the credit on AA flights here, issued under a QF flight number. Does anyone know if this would be possible from their own experience? Or would this credit only be useful on QF metal between the USA and Aus (once that eventually starts up again)?

I'm hoping that I haven't just made a $1500 'donation' to Alan Joyce and am able to recoup some of the money that I've already spent.

TIA

Can you provide more information on that or a link to the page

The following page has this content:

Qantas Flight Credits can only be redeemed on bookings:

I was referencing this paragraph from Qantas Flight Credits | Qantas :

“Departing from the country in which the original booking was made. To redeem a Flight Credit issued outside of your home country, contact your local Qantas office at the time of booking.”

My take was that my ‘home country’ is now the USA. I guess it’s open to interpretation though...the lack of detail on the Qantas website creates a lot of grey areas.

Yes, that's the same page I was looking at.

You can certainly use them on non QF metal.

I think the problem is the currency the fare is charged in; although not insurmountable it was likely a bridge too far for the online (re-)booking tool - although that has not stopped failures even when using the original currency:rolleyes:.

I'd suggest calling may be the only way to have any chance.

Of course, there may be opportunity for you next year, or the year after:
  • Any existing, unused Flight Credits issued after 31 January 2019 for bookings made on or before 28 February 2021, are valid for bookings and travel until 31 December 2023.

You cannot book QF marketed AA operated flights without connecting to/from Australia.

It doesn’t have fares for domestic flights in the US, only to/from Australia. They would have to be booked as AA flights.

I booked tickets to go Sydney from Melbourne to go on Monday and return ealry Jan.

Given the recent events its time to cancel however online there's only a flight credit option which is pretty seriously cough.

Huh?

Is your ticket refundable? If not, you get a credit.
