Qantas First Class menus

It is insane that they go from a $120 pinot that is arguably the best in the country, to a random $42 pinot.

And even the $120 price point is nothing compared to what you see on the ME3 or Asian carriers in First.
Depends on the Asian carrier for F reds.
JL/NH are quite average. Same with CX, but looks like they are recently improving their offering.
Don't recall TG to be any good, but that was a long time ago.
SQ probably the best and most consistently high level F red list.

Very hard to go past quality of wll wines in EK F. "Emirates boasts the most extensive wine cellar of any airline - dedicated facilities in France which currently house around 6 million bottles of fine wine, some of which won’t be served until 2037. - several First Growths from Bordeaux in the coming years, from the renowned estates of Château Mouton Rothschild, Château Margaux, Château Haut-Brion, Château Cheval Blanc, and Château d'Yquem."

In case you couldn't tell from other pics in this thread, the new menu is now in a leather binder, although mine was obviously worn (a month or so old?!), with an odd 1.5 page folded type of arrangement. The half pages at the front.
The "dine on demand" worked kinda OK - I had the steak main for breakfast. The F ovens were all being used at time of request, so they had to wait for a free one from another galley which took an hour.
Plenty of hot towels.

Forgot to take the menu on the return flight - they take the binder before landing. D'oh.
My choice of entree wasn't loaded at all on QF12, so to make up for it, they gave me a second main 😂

Can you take the menu but not binder ?

I must look innocent and trustworthy as I don't think I've ever had a menu-binder removed from my seat/suite on QF, EK or SQ (back in the day). :)

That said, never actually taken one off the plane.

Did they really offer a choice of the Louise and the Grande Année? That would be real improvement but I somehow doubt it, knowing Qantas…

QF2 SIN-SYD MAR 21

Didn't eat much on this flight as I needed sleep! Had two starters from the supper menu for dinner and skipped breakfast all together. Service good, food was a bit average this time which is surpising as catering ex SIN is usually very good. Wine list unchanged, and has remained the same for a while - it would be nice to see some variety! IMG_5480.jpeg

Grosset Riesling with canapes
IMG_5484.jpeg

Thai Red Curry and Pumpking soup - very nice, although the chicken wing was odd and didn't taste good.
IMG_5485.jpeg
Crab cakes were a bit dry and flavourless, not awful but wouldn't order again. The best part was the cucumber pickles.

Tried the burger last month, was very tasty, quite American in style of food.
I wanna see that- a “quite American style burger” outside America? I might let Five Guys or Carls Jnr. pass (barely…) but otherwise I haven’t seen anything even close to “American style” when it comes to burgers here in Australia. Actually the old Hard Rock cafés used to be decent, while they still existed at Darling Harbour or, longer ago even, on Crown Street.

And no, a lot of “American burgers” down here are so clearly typical Aussie style, it’s not even funny.

QF81 SYD-SIN 17APR26

A380 service on select QF81/82 flights. Service was very good, however food was mixed, and my main was awful.

Tattinger Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs 2012 was on offer pre-departure - a nice surprise and even the FA commented that she hadn't seen this loaded for a long time. After departure, Bollinger La Grande Annee 2015 was offered. 37593EEF-5FB1-405C-B3A8-97F7F1F89607.JPG

Menu SYD-SIN. I can recall having this same exact F menu 12 months ago excpet for the new American burger -- I am suprised they have that as a "starter" and not a main. Burger aside, I didnt expect to see the same menu items...

Moved over to the Bollinger La Grande Annee with canapes

Thai style salad of crab and pork - delicious, and have ordered this dish before. Restaurant quality.

Decided to try something different, and went with the lamb. Epic fail! It was a disaster, overcooked/overfryed, brocolini tasted burnt and overcooked as well. I managed a few bits and sent it back. Overall, a disappointment.
IMG_6052.jpeg

Had an affagato for dessert and the steak sandwhich prior to arrival - apologies forgot to get photos. I think I was still annoyed at how bad the lamb was!

Such a shame- the lamb sounded great on the menu!

The Bollinger La Grande Annee is one of my favourite Millesime champagnes out there so I’d chose it over the Taittinger any day. I know that some people disagree but I can’t say I’ve missed the latter in the slightest!

I was on QF11 on Sunday (19th), equally surprised at the Taittinger BdB being served pre-takeoff. I switched to the Head shiraz after departure so can't remember what the in-flight bubbles were.

Interestingly I had the lamb for main as well, I didn't find it as bad as you described, but not the best main I've had on QF.

I actually had the cheeseburger for dessert, felt like the right thing to do on a flight to the US. Went down well with another couple of glasses of shiraz.

My stupid decision was to have the steak on the way home on QF12 last night, which was essentially a piece of cardboard. The menu said it came with a "sour cream peppercorn sauce" which I asked for when it was served, only to be informed that said sauce is actually included (and therefore pre-dehydrated) as part of the cardboard/meat itself. 0/10 do not recommend.

The burger looks surprisingly nice though nothing on a “proper American” burger. I personally think burgers should just be left to Steak n Shake, In and Out and so on where you can get amongst the best in the world for under 10 bucks (the former is my all time favourite and their “classic” beef tallow fries tells you instantly why this supposedly healthier stuff at Meccas and co doesn’t taste anything like it used to anymore, just have your Statin pill handy). Saying that- this here still looks nicer than I had expected, quite similar actually to the one Cathay serves on their flights, from the looks at least.

But that steak- oh I feel for you, especially when flying in First! What the heck did they do to it? It looks indeed like a zero out of ten and it sounds that it tasted like it looks. Steaks are difficult to do on an airplane but some crews still manage to do a half way decent job, even on Qantas and more so on some other airlines. This here just looks like an absolute miss- shoe sole, I would call this but I guess cardboard also nails it! Oh my…
