They extra will not be taxes. Will be taxes, carrier surcharges & carriers imposed fees.
Never ever confuse the real taxes (paid to governments) with carrier surcharges & carriers imposed fees

As post above this is not new. Same for QF, BA, MH and many others carriers.

requent flyers have been treated like dirt for the past decade as the airlines continue to roll back the value of loyalty to the point where it’s almost cheaper to shop around for a fare rather than accept a “free” flight redemption.Since discount fares rise and fall according to market demand, it’s only frequent flyers who get slugged with fixed, published surcharges when they come to redeem their benefi

return low season Qantas fare to London being promoted by Flight Centre that is priced from $1809 from Sydney.
The price includes a $760 fuel surcharge, a $728 base fare and $321 in taxes. “In this instance, the actual base fare only represents 40 per cent of the ticket price

Many of the “taxes”, for instance, aren’t government charges at all, but airport levies – which in Australia at least tend to be very high. BYE QANTAS

Qantas’s current $760 surcharge on a return flight to London is more than 12 times its initial surcharge of $60.

Those increases saw Qantas’s fuel surcharges to London quadruple between February 2011 and March 2012.

Have you been hiding under a rock? This is what makes premium awards so much more cost effective - you pay almost the same in taxes as in whY but only double the points. In a lot of cases you might be able to fly in whY for cash for the same as cash and points for an award.

Be my guest. It wont change anything, will be misreported and ill-informed. It also wont mention movements in fuel prices and other factors. But hey - at least it wouldn't be another article on poor quality food in some supermarkets, fat drugs that dont work, THE BOAT PEOPLE!!!! and the other vaccuous carp that is on there...

Whilst I agree with a lot of your post I can't let this go. If the charges are levies by Australian airports then why is it "BYE QANTAS"? All airlines should be paying the same levies and QF should be in a position to negotiate better volume discounts (in theory but you have to consider elasticity of demand I guess).

Ok, I understand you're frustrated and all. But I'm having a lot of difficulty understand the posts. Please, pretty please could you try some sentences or something. :-|

WHo is charging $1050 return to the US?

Woah - just checked china southern on random dates in Sep (not holidays and flying Tue/Wed) for $1,201 and United for about $1,300

SELL YOUR SHARES PEOPLE!!!!

Question - have you checked other FF programs out so you at least have a comparison point.

As others have said, economy redemptions are poor value. Play the game and put the value back in your court.

As for TT and ACA, good luck. I'd imagine they'd have fairly cushy relationships with the airlines, so probably won't even bother airing anything.

I'm with Medhead - a quick look shows the quoted fare is to Hawaii - for flights to LA about $1500 - but then maybe I missed the actual flight?

medhead you posted as I was typing so some overlap of content.

Where are you actually trying to fly to in the US and where from in AUS? How many FF points do you have to spend? And what is the date range you are trying to travel?
