Qantas FF and Woolworths create new loyalty alliance

Just thought about something, that blurb mentioned only Woolworths stores. I hope points can also be earned in Big W, Safeway and other stores owned by them. It'd be great if I could earn points and/or fuel savings at BWS and Dan Murphy's when I buy drinks too.

Not sure about the booze stores, but Safeway stores are being rebranded as Woolworths just as Roelf Vos was rebranded as Woolworths in Tas a few years ago...

Excluding booze shops then, you can earn fuel discounts at Big W, so I'd hope you'd be able to earn points there too.

The original blurb from Qantas and Woolworths certianly suggested that it would operate more widely across the group than the current Everyday Rewards fuel voucher system:

From mid-2009, the new relationship will allow Woolworths customers who participate in the Everyday Rewards program to earn Qantas Frequent Flyer points when they shop for groceries, fuel, packaged liquor, general merchandise or consumer electronics at a participating Woolworths group business.

I wonder if they'll send plastic cards after the fee goes, or will you have to wait till you actually achieve something.

I'm not sure how much a plastic card costs them now, and all the info on the program they send with it, but it's easily offset by the $82.50. With that money no longer coming in (if it's a total phase out), there could be a small hit in earnings. Especially if a lot of people choose to sign up.

Heading off to woolies with them this afternoon so they can join everday rewards prior to our RTW later this year!

All i can say is that it will be even more important for me to maintain my WP status so i can redeem the points!

Looks like our 11-week old is about to join Everyday Rewards.

My 3 kids already joined up.


Their joing was very helpful with the 10 cent fuel vouchers on offer at the start...was a nice family contribution and made fuel cheap for a while!!!!

It was also most pleasing to see all our family pets also rally to the cause at the time...to also be Everday Members!!! Helped to subsidise their birdseed and fishfood.

As far as the points go, we have in 5 months had 30 purchases that qualified for 4¢ discount fuel vouchers at Safeway/Woolies etc.

Maybe I don't understand how it works, but isn't this the opposite of what should happen? I understand that you get a 4cpL discount voucher for each $30 that you spend, and I've seen people split up their purchases for that reason (to get the multiple vouchers). Haven't stooped so low as to have tried that myself, but can't say that I haven't considered it!

The other day in Big W I bought a camera memory card and you have to pay for it separately at the back of the store, but I wanted a few other things so I could get my 4¢ off, so asked about this and they sent the card to the front of the store to be paid for when I was ready.

Most slabs of beer these days are over $30 anyway, so it wouldn't be a problem, instead of $70-points comings through, you'd just have two lots of $35-points.

More interesting will be if they round-up or down. Does $69.98 equal 69 or 70.

For people that go for fuel discounts already, I imagine none.

Some Coles shoppers may switch, I guess.

Mrs NM rarely has problems with being below the $30 limit at any supermarket check-out :shock:.

I was mainly referring to people who shop at Woolworths, obviously smaller amounts, 3 or 4 times a week. If for arguments sake you spend ~$50 each visit then over 4 visits you will receive ~80 QFF points. If you change your shopping at Woolworths to once a week and still spend $200 then you will receive ~170 QFF points.

Over the course of a year it could potentially be a lot of QFF points, as I feel I only used conservative spend in the example, by doing the shopping weekly or fortnightly as opposed to a few times a week. Isn't one 4c off fuel voucher per week enough?

Are you suggesting that the first $30 of each transaction will not earn any FF points?

I assume that for each transaction over $30 you will earn points on the entire $ amount spent. Spend less than $30 and no points. But I have not seen published terms and conditions yet.

But you don't get QFF points for the first $30. So if you spend $50 on groceries and $40 on beer you get 60 points. Do it seperately and you only get 30.
