Qantas FC redemption LAX - MEL

You will still be accommodated in an F dining area in the J lounge at LAX. I would personally take the F flights to Syd and then transfer. If you are late in and miss the flight to Melbourne and end up in whY it's not the end of the world given it's only recliner business and a 1hr flight.

Wouldn’t the refund be approx 40k points per passenger? Whatever the difference is between a FC and BC classic rewards booking in that route plus any tax difference

Correct… for a non-stop routing.

If still taking F to SYD and connecting to MEL, a little more complicated.

We haven’t flown first class, but plenty of business. It’s a tough decision weighing up the inconvenience of a connection vs first class. When I found 4 x classic first class I thought I’d stumbled on a unicorn. So I am abit disappointed to give it up but our kids are 5 and 7. So running between terminals after a 15 hour flight doesn’t excite me haha
Our kids are 5 and 7 too, and the transfer is just fine.
I don't think you'll have much luck getting on the direct, assuming you are flying tomorrow, as it was swapped from an A380 to a 787.
Take the F flight, it's worth it.
